Traffic Wardens
I have been made aware that there are ongoing concerns about the absence of a traffic warden on Candlewood Drive. The management of traffic wardens is not the responsibility of the school. Concerns have been sent to WA Police regarding this issue and I am pleased to report that our traffic warden has returned to Candlewood Drive.
WA Police is very short-staffed on traffic wardens and their relief pool is nearly non-existent. If you are interested in working as a traffic warden, please email the school on joondalup.esc@education.wa.edu.au and I will pass on your name and contact details.
Upcoming Sausage Sizzle
The P&C will be holding a sausage sizzle on Saturday 14 October when the school is used as polling booth for The Voice referendum. There are two shifts: 8.00-11.00am and 11.00am-2.00pm. If you are available, please contact the school and your details will be forwarded to Jenny Coyle.
Beldon and Creaney ESC Sports Days
Students enjoyed the junior and senior sports days at Beldon ESC and Creaney ESC respectively last week. Joondalup ESC walked away with the winners plaque from the senior carnival this year. Thank you to Nathan's Mum, Amanda for engraving the plaque for us and THANK YOU to our wonderful staff for the energy, commitment, support and encouragement given to our students and each other across the carnival days. Please enjoy some photos from both events below.

We have had a very busy but fun filled term in Room 2.
We had an excursion to Perth Zoo to complete our Talk for Writing topic on information texts. Students enjoyed getting to view many different animals as well as collect information on their appearance, habitat and diet.
We have been lucky enough to participate in an incursion by Sensorium, an interactive reading experience. The book focus was ‘Ten Tiny Things’. We enjoyed listening to the story whilst playing with resources to act out the scenes.
We have also been busy creating our own projects on Book Creator ‘All About Me’. We loved getting to share them with our friends and teachers.
This term in Talk for Writing we have used the model text entitled Zog taken from the book written by Julia Donaldson.
We first drew our story map and then learned the actions and the story. The students can recite the whole text.
We have completed a range of activities including the tuff tray and models of the castle and the main characters. The students have been able to practise using puppets.
We have also completed short burst writing based around character descriptions. The students have also been able to write their own recount of the story.
Next week we are going to innovate our text. Students will choose a new character, setting and problem.
The Faction Athletics Carnival was great! Red was triumphant and led throughout the day with the other factions battling it out for their final ladder placement. As always, we saw children try their very best to compete fairly and enjoy the opportunity to challenge their friends and classmates.
I would like to acknowledge the work of the faction captains who were a great help to staff.
The carnival would not have been possible with the efforts of Mrs Michelle Smith, our Physical Education teacher. Behind such a smooth event are hours of work in teaching skills, keeping staff on track and planning for each minute. Everyone contributed through organising children, managing the start and finish of races and games, keeping track of the points, manning the first aid station, and setting up and pulling down tents and this is greatly appreciated.
Thank you to the canteen for keeping everyone fed on what is a super busy day and to all the families that came out and supported students.
Please see the results and a selection of photos below.
Total
Students have been busy demonstrating confidence, curiosity, imagination, and enjoyment when engaged in their visual arts projects. I love these Koalas! Rooms 1 and 2 drew these cute pastel Koala portraits using oil pastel, exploring different techniques to create texture. Rooms 21, 22, 27, 26, and 25 have started exploring Secondary Colours (orange, purple and green) and used their tactile collage techniques to create these glistening Stained-Glass Heart masterpieces. I cannot wait to see them in the windows. Rooms 1,2, and 3 finished off their melted marble pinch pot with clear varnish. They are just sensational.
