Staff news
It’s that time of the year when things are wrapping up. On Thursday we will farewell some staff who have made valuable contributions to the school.
Mr John Pearson has been working in Room 3 for the majority of the year with some of our year 4/5 students. He has been successful in gaining a position in his chosen field in the country and we wish him all the best.
Mrs Lauren Pearson has been working in Room 1 with some of our year 4/5 students and is also off to new adventures in the country and we wish her all the best as well.
Mr Sean Whitehead joined the Joondalup ESC Admin team for 2022. He has been a huge asset throughout the year. Mr Whitehead has won a permanent Associate Principal at Belridge Secondary Education Support Centre. Congratulations to Mr Whitehead and I’m sure some of our graduating students will see him in the future.
Mrs Jacqui Clayton is leaving Joondalup ESC and returning to her previous school of South Ballajura Education Support Centre. Mrs Clayton has shared her knowledge and expertise with the staff and students at Joondalup ESC for the past few years for which we are all grateful. Our loss but definitely South Ballajura’s gain.
Mrs Diane Rushworth is leaving Joondalup ESC after 14 years. Mrs Rushworth has been a dedicated teacher who has worked tirelessly to help students be the best they can be. Mrs Rushworth has been a mentor to many staff over the years, taking time to share her knowledge and expertise with staff, students and parents alike. Mrs Rushworth is also moving on to South Ballajura ESC and they will be very lucky to have her. New adventures are ahead for Mrs Rushworth and we wish her well.
Mrs Helen Sweet is retiring after 41 years as a teacher with most of her career being here at Joondalup Schools. Mrs Sweet began teaching at JESC in 2019 and has shared he passion for The Arts with many of our students and staff. Thank you for all you have done, we will miss you.
Mrs Elizabeth Hore will be taking extended Long Service Leave and enjoying some well-deserved calming adventures. We hope you have a wonderful time Mrs Hore.

Carols by Candlelight
Two weeks ago we enjoyed a fabulous Carols by Candlelight. It was very well attended and audience feedback was very positive. Thank you to Mrs Rhiannon O’Connor for her expert organisation and musical talent which made the night possible and to Mrs Jayne Butler for her support of the School Choir. Mrs Helen Sweet created another backdrop using leaves and palm fronds for the event. As always, Carols was a team effort. I greatly appreciate the work of staff from across Joondalup Schools who cooked the sausage sizzle, set up, packed away, attended rehearsals and helped on the night.
Enterprise Day
Congratulations to the Year 6s for helping to organise a fantastic Enterprise Day and we think that it was one of our best events yet. Last Friday afternoon children were able to use their tickets to participate in activities and purchase items from stalls that were planned and organised by the Year 6 children.

Once again, we have managed to pack the year with a range of exciting opportunities for the students and their families. The staff have continued to show a high level of commitment to the education, safety and well-being of all students. It is a privilege to work alongside such an excellent staff. I would also like to extend my best wishes to the staff at Joondalup Primary School.
To Ms Anna Eason, who took on the role as Principal at Joondalup ESC Principal for the last 15 months, I would like to say a huge thank you. Your leadership, in what has been an extraordinary year in education, your mentoring of staff, your compassion and everything else you have given us over the past 15 month has been inspiring. What a fab year we’ve had in Kindy A! We’ve learned about fairy tales, done some cooking, learned lots of counting and letter songs, gone on sensory walks, found a bear on our bear hunt and rounded off the year with Adventure Week at Outback Splash! The Kindy students have grown so much over the year and it has been lovely to see them all develop friendships that will last into next year. What better way to finish off the year than with our Christmas party too!
The Year 6s in Room 9 have had an absolutely fantastic year. There have been so many highlights along the way, that it has been hard to narrow it down to just a few. The children have agreed that camp was amazing as they got to spend time with their friends, they loved the spaghetti bolognaise for dinner and they got to ride the bus to many different activities like the Puppet Theatre, Scitech and Fremantle playground.
The students have had lots of opportunities to socialise and complete activities with their peers in the Primary School, and really enjoyed coming together for the cowboy-themed assembly. They thought it was fun to get dressed up and to sing and dance on the stage.
The excitement and anticipation for high school has been building. Our transition days helped the students get used to the new classrooms and environment and even the chance to meet new friends and see some old, familiar faces.
Our Christmas activities have been a nice way to finish off the school year. We decorated our classroom and the Christmas tree, made Christmas crackers for a friend, and joined the year 6s to make a snowman doorstop thanks to Miss Mercer’s mum.
On behalf of the staff at Joondalup ESC, we wish our graduating students the very best for the next chapter of their schooling lives. We know that they are capable of amazing things, and we hope that they will keep us up to date on their achievements and progress.
The last day of school is almost here, which sees the closing of one door and opening of another. We want to thank each child for the brilliant memories and learning we have shared this year. We all wish you a wonderful summer and happy holidays! Remember to have fun, stay safe and SLIP, SLOP, SLAP!
WOW, what a crazy, fun and memorable Term 4 we have had. We have had our amazing assembly that we worked very hard on, birthdays and colour run. Then we had our fun Adventure Week, our favourite was definitely Outback Splash, and what perfect weather we had for it.
In the last two weeks of school we have been doing so much Christmas craft and baking and can’t wait to send them home for you all to see. In our last week, we all thought 'What better way to celebrate our last week of the year but to have a Class Party?!' This has been the best year, we had so much fun with each other and the students have developed great friendships with each other.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all!
Well, here we are at the end of another year!
Term 4 has been a busy one; cooking to practice our maths skills and craft activities were a part of our HASS sessions….. Then in between, we have had colour run, Adventure Week……
All that it left to do is wish all the families at Joondalup a Happy Christmas and a wonderful holiday!
What a wonderful time of the year, especially in Room 23. We have finished our year off reading lots of different Christmas stories, playing in Santa's Workshop and looking for our cheeky Elf hiding in the classroom each day. We have had an amazing year and can't wait for another great year in 2023. Merry Christmas from all the students in Room 23.

Wow!! What a fantastic end we have had to an equally fantastic year! These last few weeks have been action packed – Halloween, Outback Splash, Crocs, Fantastic Friday Fun and now we are getting into the swing of Christmas!
HALLOWEEN
We are lucky enough to have Mrs. Rowlands as our in-class scientist and she kindly organized some Halloween themed experiments. We had fun making all different types of potions and concoctions.
OUTBACK SPLASH
We were lucky enough to have the perfect weather for Outback Splash. The children had a great time trying out the different slides with their friends and it was incredible to see their excitement as their confidence built, especially in those children who had not been there before.
CROCS
Thursday of Week 8 saw us head off to Crocs Indoor Playcentre. We had our recess then it was off to explore! Our class loved checking out the slides, trampolining, playing with the ball cannon, riding bikes and climbing up the frames with the other junior school students.
FANTASTIC FUN FRIDAYS
Throughout the year, Rooms 28, 29, 23 and 33 have been joining together to participate in activities that help promote fine motor and social skills. This term we have had different themes such as All Things Science, Water Play, Wizards and Witches, and Fairytales. These afternoons also provide an opportunity for the children to get to know different staff members and build positive relationships through play-based learning experiences.
CHRISTMAS ACTIVITIES
Week 9 has seen Room 29 really get into the swing of Christmas with lots of art and craft based around this celebration. Santas, elves, snowmen, gingerbread men are all decorating our room, along with our Christmas tree which the children enjoy decorating each day. On Thursday we even went up to Nature Play and went on an Elf Hunt, looking for those pesky elves that escaped our room!!
We cannot believe the year is almost at an end!!
We wish everyone at JESC a very Merry Christmas and a safe 2023.
This term in STEM we have been learning out Physics. Rooms 14, 23, 28 and 35 looked at different transport and how vehicles move. Throughout the term students built and completed activities about cars, trucks, bikes, boats, planes, helicopters and rockets. Students explored how they move and identified parts of the vehicles that make them move.
Rooms 1, 3, 9, 16 and 25 looked at famous inventions with a focus on force and motion. Students learnt about famous engineers and how invention has progressed and changed over time. These inventions included planes, trains, cranes, parachutes, catapults, bridges and buildings.
Rooms 21 and 27 learnt about push and pull, exploring how objects can move through a push and pull action.
