In - Term Swimming
This week we commenced in-term swimming. Although the mornings have been quite cold, students have really enjoyed swimming and have been absolute super stars. The water is warm, and HBF Arena is warm too, it is just cold when we go back outside! Thank you to families who have labelled items so clearly, and sent in plastic bags for wet clothes. A huge thank you to staff who have volunteered to go in the water.
Building works
Our carpark upgrade has started! Our play equipment has been dismantled and will be rebuilt on the other side of the basketball courts. The new carpark will have 15 additional car bays and 1 additional ACROD bay. This will reduce the pressure on street parking, keeping these free during the day.
The upgrade to the carpark will start on Saturday 12 June and will affect parking bays as indicated in the image below and there will be no access through Gate 2. Access will still be available through Gate 3, adjacent to the childrens crossing on Candlewood Boulevard.
Dress up Day 15 June 2021
Next Tuesday Yr.6 students from the Primary School will be hosting the assembly. They have asked that everyone dress up in their best rock 80’s outfit. Black jeans, bandanas and denim are some of the suggestions we have been asked to wear.
Interschool Winter Carnival
This year we will be representing Joondalup Schools with our very first Joondalup Education Support Centre interschool netball team. A number of students will be competing against Currambine Primary School, Joondalup Primary School and Beaumaris Primary School. Students will be competing at HBF Arena, and those invited to play will have received excursion notes earlier this week.
Shout out to Room 9 and 16
Check out our own Mr Dawson at the AFL game at Optus Stadium on the weekend. Although he is Essendon’s number 1 fan, he took the time out to make this sign, which was spotted at the game. A big hello to Room 9 and Room 16!

As a whole campus, we recently celebrated Reconciliation Week. In Room 1 we discussed what reconciliation means and created a display for the window to demonstrate our thoughts. A commitment was made for us to begin learning and using some Noongar words. We greet each other in the morning using “Kaya” which means “hello” in the Noongar language and when leaving in the afternoon we say “Boorda” meaning “goodbye”.
We are learning about the Aboriginal family (moort) structure compared to our own and the skills parents teach their children.
You may hear the students using the Noongar words for family members.
We all enjoyed our extra day off to celebrate WA Day and are making good use of the WA Day booklet from the West Australian.
Exploring Caversham Wildlife Park with Room 14
Throughout Term 2, Room 14 have been learning about farms through books, interactive learning experiences and hands on play. What better way to finish our theme than a trip to Caversham Wildlife Park, where you can walk amongst the farm animals at Molly’s Farm.
We started our day with a bus ride and a few rounds of ‘Old MacDonald’ to get us in the mood! We enjoyed recess surrounded by black cockatoos then made our way to the farm show. Rusty, the kelpie showed us his herding skills, we saw lambs being fed, tails wiggling throughout, then the farmer showed his whip cracking skills! He gave a sheep a haircut then we all milked a cow! She was so patient. We went into the area with all the goats (who wanted to eat our PODD books!), chickens, a highland cow and horses, and had fun stroking the baby goats and having photos with the donkey and all the other animals.
We couldn’t go to Caversham and not feed the kangaroos, which we all loved, then had a picnic lunch and went to see the koalas. A well-deserved ice lolly and we were at the end of our day. It was so much fun that we were all ready for bed by the time we got back to school!
Colour Wheel Trees
The students who attend Visual Arts revised the colour wheel. A tree trunk and branches were drawn and coloured in felt pen. The foliage was added in acrylic paint. The primary colours were painted first and then used to mix the secondary colours.

We are so excited for Music Rocks the Rosemount on Saturday 26 June. Our favourite venue and such an awesome place for Music Rocks concerts and our families.

If you have not yet returned your nomination form please download the form and return it to the school.
Joondalup Primary Schools have been in contact with the Traffic Warden State Management Unit in regards to our crossings being unattended for a considerable time. Fortunately they have advised that they are able to provide a Traffic Warden for the crossing located on Candlewood Boulevard near Jolstra Crescent from Monday 14 June.
The Traffic Warden State Management Unit has informed us that whilst they are training new Wardens as quickly as possible, they are having an increasing number of Wardens resign/retire. If anyone is interested in becoming a Traffic Warden please contact the unit on 6274 8731 for more information.
Thank you to all of our families for your patience.
Some of our students are members of the All Star Kids Club which was recently featured in an article on the Joondalup District - WA Police Force.
If you notice any suspicious activity on School Grounds, please contact Security on 9264 4771 or the Police on 131 444.
