COVID-19 Changes
Last week the Premier announced Phase 3 of the WA roadmap to ease COVID-19 restrictions. These will commence from 6 June. This means we will be able to restart some of our activities and programs that have been suspended.
- After School Music Rocks can start from next week.
- Class groups will resume shortened assemblies with no visitors, and a maximum of 100 students at one time.
- After School Sport may not recommence until Term 4 depending on our success with the grant application.
- Craft Club will start week 1 in Term 3 and notes will be coming home soon from Mrs Galt for expressions of interest. Limited spaces are available so please return your form as soon as possible
- We are hopeful school excursions and incursions will resume soon.
- Our Early Intervention (Pre-Kindy) program will resume in Term 3.
Gate Drop-Offs and Pick-Ups – to continue
From next week, parents are able to come back onsite if they need to. The gate drop-off and pick-ups have been so successful though, that we would like to continue this. Students are walking to class by themselves, they are carrying their own bag, they are unpacking their bag independently and are ready for learning. We have seen a surge in independence and resilience from our students which has been great. Most classrooms have continued to use SeeSaw to communicate, or have communication books.
Staff will continue to be at the gate from 8:30am and will be ready at gates at 3pm.
School times
School bell times will return to 8:50am for the start of school and 3:00pm at the end of the school day. I understand a 2.50pm pickup has been better for some families as you have other children at other schools. We can continue to accommodate this and continue with a 2.50 pick up, just let your teacher know.
If you need to drop your child off late or pick them up early just let the teacher or Mrs Carter know. We would like to support families who need to make alternative arrangements as best we can.
Reports
As you are aware reports will look different this semester. Reports will be send out electronically to the email address you have given us. If you have updated your email address, please let us know. This semester no achievement scores will be put in reports. They will all read ”not assessed”. A comment will be made in English, Mathematics and an overall comment. Some comments may be made in other learning areas if appropriate. There will be no photos attached to reports.
Therapists
Therapists are beginning to return to Joondalup and we are getting swamped with requests for in school appointment times. It is important that we are aware of what the therapist is doing when at school and that you have given permission for this to happen. The reason for this is that your child will be missing part of the school curriculum for their therapy session. At school we are requesting that we have an up to date therapy plan from therapists so we are better informed about your childs program, and how therapy can complement what your child is learning so we are all working together. We are currently reviewing our procedures for therapists so that therapists, school and parents are all informed of what is happening and when.
Thank you to the P&C
I would like to thank the P&C for their $1000 donation to the Year 6 Camp. The students will benefit from this generous contribution.

Principal
We have seen some fantastic work come up to the office. Students are so proud of their work and we love to see and hear about it.
Our New Classrooms Have Arrived
Our two new classrooms have arrived this week with students watching with great excitement as they came onsite. This is only the first stage as we now wait for site works to be completed before moving onto the next stage.
Room 1 have focused on a ‘back to nature’ theme this Term. We have enjoyed a number of texts about getting out into nature and appreciating what you see and touch as well as exploring how it makes you feel to be in nature. Our school garden has provided a great backdrop for using all of our senses to explore the outdoors.
Our Health program has focused on recognising and identifying emotions using the Zones of Regulation. We have been looking at different scenarios and identifying the feelings and emotions that it could make each of us feel and matching that up to one of the four zones. We are always focusing on ways to keep our bodies happy and calm so that we are ready to learn when at school but also to communicate our feelings when we are unhappy about a situation.
It has been so encouraging seeing all of the students adjusting to new and different routines at school. We have seen such independence in getting ourselves to school and the classroom and being ready for the day. Go Room 1!
Friendship is the word in Room 23B
In Room 23B we have been exploring the concept of friendship. Friendship and conflict solving has been a focal point as we have been completing activities to provide students with the tools they need to have successful relationships with their peers. We have had so much fun participating in the hands-on games and activities as we begin to explore what a good friend is and looks like. We have talked about what children like to do with their friends, how we should treat our friends and even how we can make a new friend. We can’t wait to continue the journey learning about friendship over the next few weeks!
If you notice any suspicious activity on School Grounds, please contact Security on 9264 4771 or the Police on 131 444.
With all the disruptions going on, students of Room 16 have been keeping themselves grounded with activities such as cooking and Minecraft. We have been undertaking weekly cooking challenges such as sausage rolls and muffins, which will build our independence.
Room 16 has hosted Minecraft Masters, where students from several different classes join us to construct buildings in Minecraft. We have been using this to develop our team building skills such as leadership, kindness and communication. So far we have created several houses and castles with differing themes.
Students and Staff celebrated WA Day by wearing clothes that represent what WA means to them.
Congratulations to our WA Day Colouring Competition winners.
National Simultaneous Storytime
Wednesday 27 May was National Simultaneous Storytime Day where classrooms were encouraged to participate in storytime at the same time across the country. Room 26 particpated with their buddy class Room 7.
Today at 11:00am, Room 7 participated in the NSS with our buddy class. After listening and discussing the text Whitney & Britney Chicken Divas, both classes worked together to complete a series of fun activities related to the book.
I had a really proud teacher moment watching Room 7 and the students who worked with our buddies make our guests feel welcome and a part of our classroom.
We are looking forward to future learning opportunities with our buddy class.

Self Portraits
The students in Rooms 2, 9, 16 and 27 used mirrors to observe their face. Drawing in pencil they created a self portrait and then added colour with watercolour paints.
Abstract
Using their self portrait drawing the students in Rooms 9, 16 and 27 worked with repetition to create rythym. Shapes were then filled with pattern or blocks of colour using complimentary colours.
