Principals Report

COVID-19 Changes

Last week the Premier announced Phase 3 of the WA roadmap to ease COVID-19 restrictions. These will commence from 6 June. This means we will be able to restart some of our activities and programs that have been suspended.

  • After School Music Rocks can start from next week.
  • Class groups will resume shortened assemblies with no visitors, and a maximum of 100 students at one time.
  • After School Sport may not recommence until Term 4 depending on our success with the grant application.
  • Craft Club will start week 1 in Term 3 and notes will be coming home soon from Mrs Galt for expressions of interest. Limited spaces are available so please return your form as soon as possible
  • We are hopeful school excursions and incursions will resume soon.
  • Our Early Intervention (Pre-Kindy) program will resume in Term 3.

Gate Drop-Offs and Pick-Ups – to continue

From next week, parents are able to come back onsite if they need to. The gate drop-off and pick-ups have been so successful though, that we would like to continue this. Students are walking to class by themselves, they are carrying their own bag, they are unpacking their bag independently and are ready for learning. We have seen a surge in independence and resilience from our students which has been great. Most classrooms have continued to use SeeSaw to communicate, or have communication books.

Staff will continue to be at the gate from 8:30am and will be ready at gates at 3pm.

School times

School bell times will return to 8:50am for the start of school and 3:00pm at the end of the school day. I understand a 2.50pm pickup has been better for some families as you have other children at other schools. We can continue to accommodate this and continue with a 2.50 pick up, just let your teacher know.

If you need to drop your child off late or pick them up early just let the teacher or Mrs Carter know. We would like to support families who need to make alternative arrangements as best we can.

Reports

As you are aware reports will look different this semester. Reports will be send out electronically to the email address you have given us. If you have updated your email address, please let us know. This semester no achievement scores will be put in reports. They will all read ”not assessed”. A comment will be made in English, Mathematics and an overall comment. Some comments may be made in other learning areas if appropriate. There will be no photos attached to reports.

Therapists

Therapists are beginning to return to Joondalup and we are getting swamped with requests for in school appointment times. It is important that we are aware of what the therapist is doing when at school and that you have given permission for this to happen. The reason for this is that your child will be missing part of the school curriculum for their therapy session. At school we are requesting that we have an up to date therapy plan from therapists so we are better informed about your childs program, and how therapy can complement what your child is learning so we are all working together. We are currently reviewing our procedures for therapists so that therapists, school and parents are all informed of what is happening and when.

Thank you to the P&C

I would like to thank the P&C for their $1000 donation to the Year 6 Camp.  The students will benefit from this generous contribution.
