PJ Day
On Wednesday staff and students on the campus had the opportunity to stay in their pajamas all day! Many staff and students wore their pj’s and gave a gold coin donation, which was to raise funds for our sister school, Srang Primary in Cambodia.
Health and Wellbeing Day
Congratulations to everyone that participated in the Health and Wellness Day. It was fantastic to see all staff and students engaged in their activities and having fun. A big thank you to Miss Mercer and her team for organising this for Joondalup Schools. The feedback from staff and students has been extremely positive.
Online Safety for Parents and Carers
As parents and carers, you know your child better than anyone and have the best opportunity to support and guide them to have safer online experiences. The Office of the eSafety Commissioner is Australia's leader in online safety. Their website offers a downloadable guide which covers some of the key online safety issues for young people and includes a range of practical tips and advice on what to do if things go wrong. You can also find a list of important services that can offer extra support. Please visit https://esafety.gov.au/parents/ for further information.
P&C Support
Our P&C have recently organised bottles of sunscreen for each classroom. Perfect timing as the weather becomes warmer. Students are encouraged to put sunscreen on before play times.
Our P&C also approved the funds to donate a mud kitchen for our Junior Playground. The mud kitchen has been purchased and installed in one of our sand pits in the Junior Playground (where the boat used to be.) Huge thank you to Ms. Bennett for coming up with this idea, and organising it for our campus. Also a big thank you to Mr Townsend for installing it. The students are loving all the role play opportunities in our play areas.
ESNN Sports Carnival
On Tuesday the Education Support North Network Carnival was held. All schools made their way to Beldon Schools and the carnival was hosted by Beldon Education Support Centre. This year running races were held in the morning, followed by tabloid sports in the afternoon. The weather was absolutely perfect for the day, and families, students and staff had a great time. I was so proud of how respectful and responsible our students were on the day. Students cheered for one another, wished each other luck, and congratulated them on doing their best regardless of where they finished in races.
2020 Class Room Personal Items Lists
Next year we will be using a new supplier – Ziggy’s Educational Supplies. In Term 4 we will be sending home Personal Items Lists for the following year. If you are unfamiliar with Ziggy’s, they are a local company based in Joondalup. We made the decision to use Ziggy’s as our preferred supplier next year with Joondalup Primary School because their prices were extremely competitive, and there are so many options for families to access materials for the following year. Families on average will save up to $20 compared with last year.

Health
This Term we have enjoyed welcoming Miss Amanda, our school chaplain to share in our lessons.
Miss Amanda is here to talk to us about different feelings and how our actions can affect others.
We have been reading the story, Tom’s New Bike. The story is about how his friend’s words and actions cause him to feel different emotions.
We have re-created the story using an image board and we have adapted the storyline to be told in a way that would not hurt people’s feelings. We have reflected on how the characters could have acted differently.
We are exploring how our own actions can cause others to feel different emotions and that we can help friends when they are upset, angry or confused.
We are also developing our understanding of how our feelings can have positive or negative effects on our friends.
Our actions can reflect unkindness or kindness towards others.
Health and Wellness Day
Wool Art
Wool art was thoroughly enjoyed by all and caused us to stretch our imagination to create pieces of art work using wool and items from nature. The natural smells and equipment to choose from were very inspiring.
Costumes
We were set a challenge to put on as many dress up clothes as we could to cover our school uniform. We were all invited to take part in a fashion catwalk show once we had created our fashion statements.
Feathers
We had time to reflect and talk to our friends about what makes us happy and we wrote our thoughts down on a feather. We decorated our thoughts and feelings in beautiful colours and designs.
Healthy Eating
During our healthy eating session, we discussed all types of healthy fruit and what vitamins and minerals are used for in our bodies. We explored the importance of eating a colourful diet. We were then able to eat a rainbow serving of different fruits to celebrate being healthy.
Dance
We finished off the morning with Dance. We showed off our best signature moves to the top tunes of today and worked up a hunger for lunch. All the students finished with great smiles and pink cheeks.
Community Song
After lunch we contributed our part into the new School song which was played at the end of the day. Our mindful colouring allowed us a quiet calming tune before heading home.
Congratulations to Bailey for being a winner in the canteen wellness colouring competition. What a yummy prize.
At the start of Term 3, Room 1 welcomed two new students to our class - Griffin and Jake. That gives us 8 students in our class and we’d like to share a bit about what we have been doing.
HASS – Around the World
Our topic for HASS this Term is “Around the World”. We have been learning about the continents and oceans. There are 7 continents and 5 oceans. The continents are Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Australia and Europe. The oceans are Atlantic, Indian, Pacific, Southern and Arctic. The countries we have been looking at are Brazil, South Africa, USA and Canada. We have been having fun learning about our world – its people, the activities they enjoy, the food they eat and the animals found there.

Health
In Health, we have continued our healthy eating work and have learnt about the importance of drinking water. We learnt that to keep our bodies healthy, we need to drink 2L of water each day. We measured how much water our own water bottles hold and therefore how many bottles we need to drink.
Science Week
Our class just loves Science! During Science Week we learnt lots about Space. When we arrived at school an asteroid had landed in the sensory garden. It made a big hole! With Mr Critchley, we entered our Space Training Centre. We got to experience lots of different aspects of space including trying dry ice cream and using the VR headsets to enter into space. We even got special space lunch orders.
“I loved Science Week” James
“I really liked all of Science week” Nathan
Health and Wellness Day
On Friday 30th August, we celebrated Health and Wellness Day.
“My favourite activity was when we dressed up. I wore glasses, hat, a yellow t-shirt and very tight jeans. I also liked Just Dance.” Max
“My favourite part of the day was when we learnt about fruits. We got to try all the different fruits. I only liked the watermelon”. Jake
On Friday 30th August we all participated in Wellness Day. I was fortunate enough to facilitate a session with Years 3-6 students on what makes them happy.
What does your family do for fun?
We all have such busy lives, with work and school, juggling homework, chores and schedules of extracurricular activities. Sometimes we forget to do things for FUN!
One of the best ways to connect as a family and to feel happy is to do things you enjoy together. We need to fill our own cups before we can effectively give to others.
What are some fun things you can come up with to do as a family?
Here are some examples the students came up with in their session:
- Family picnic (Even in the back yard)
- Go for a bike ride
- Go for a bush walk
- Fly a kite
- Go to the beach – even in winter it is so nice to rug up and go and collect shells
- Go ice-skating or roller-skating
- Go fishing (Even if you don’t catch anything)
- Look for frogs or tadpoles in the lake (This one is so fun)
- Go camping
This week, make a list as a family of some of the things you would like to do for FUN. Then try and tick one off your list every week. Have fun connecting!

On Thursday 29 August 2019, 30 students from Joondalup Primary School and 10 students from Joondalup Educational Support Centre were invited to attend a program at Curtin University. The program was focused on providing students with an opportunity to step into a chemical laboratory and conduct a variety of experiments that are used as a basis in real life situations.
Students were provided with the opportunity to observe a reversible chemical reaction using a magical blue substance and discussion focused on the importance of using the senses when making accurate observations. Then they explored the properties of a variety of super absorbent polymers to find out which one would make the best absorbent nappy.
JPS and JESC students then put on their laboratory coats and safety glasses and assumed the role of a chemical scientist in the Curtin University Laboratory. In the laboratory, they conducted, hypothesised and observed the results from a heat changing worm experiment, they conducted, observed and summarised the results of using different primary and secondary colours in a chromatography experiment and they were given the opportunity to create their own toothpaste and then compare the reactive ingredients between their own natural toothpaste and a Macleans brand.
The BASF excursion was an opportunity for our JPS and JESC scientists to observe and experience science in a real life setting. It was an exceptional educational excursion and even more inspiring to witness the scientific understanding and engagement of those that attended.
