Kaya, We have had a busy few weeks and lots of things have been happening around our school.
Jan is on holidays!
Jan Tucker will be taking some extended leave beginning this week. Jan is our longest serving staff member and has seen every student, staff member and parent arrive, learn, and graduate over the years. Jan has a wealth of knowledge she has been sharing with us, in preparation of taking leave. We wish Jan all the very best, and hope she visits us soon!
Sensorium
Sensorium have been performing to our junior primary classes each week, creating a multi-sensory experience while reading the story “Ten Tiny Things”. Our students absolutely love that they can explore, move and try all the different experiences. Last week students were looking at lots of tiny things with magnifying glasses.
Cross Country
Not long ago Joondalup Schools had our annual cross country race at Windemere Oval. Joondalup ESC are so proud of Xander, who has qualified to make the Joondalup Primary School interschool team! How amazing! Xander will be joining the rest of the team to compete at the interschool carnival in a couple of week. Later this term Reece and Hamish will be joining the Primary School in the Winter Sport Carnival. Both boys have been selected for the netball team. This year some students have an opportunity to compete in a lawn bowls competition and some of our Year 5 and 6 students will be competing.
Sensory Equipment
Our new sensory equipment has arrived! Check out our Facebook page to see our students trying everything out. We have an indoor swing, musical trampoline and balance beam, and vibrating mat. All of these are blue toothed and can have activities attached. Our students have given us “thumbs up” to the new equipment. We are also almost finished creating our new “Blue zone” which is attached to B Block. The Blue zone will have a small trampoline, swing and other equipment to give students a place for a movement break all year round. We have called it the “Blue zone” as we have installed blue soft fall on the ground, and on the walls so students can rock on peanut balls and push off the wall if they wish to.
P&C Day WA
This Friday is P&C Day WA. On behalf of the school community, I would like to thank the members of Joondalup Schools’ P&C Association for their tireless work. Over many years, numerous volunteers have given time, shared their enthusiasm for the school community and been committed to projects. Because of their efforts, our students have been the beneficiaries in so many ways including improved playground spaces, literacy and mathematical resources, camp and swimming lesson subsidies, choir t-shirts, and a fully funded in-school performance. We are extremely grateful that we have such a strong P&C who give so much to make things possible.
The next P&C meeting will be held on Wednesday 29 May at 7.00 pm. Please come along and see how you can contribute to this group who do so much for the school.
Starlight Foundation Fundraiser
This Friday the school captains have organised a fundraising day for the Starlight Foundation. Children are encouraged to wear purple or gold or both, or come dressed in a superhero costume. Please bring a gold coin donation for the day.

Exciting things were happening last week in the sensory room. Our new equipment has arrived!! We now have a noisy trampoline, a vibrating pad, a balance beam, new steps for students to gain access to the ball pit more independently and a swing frame with interchangeable swings.
Here’s what some of the students in room 25 have had to say so far….
- “Everything was awesome!”- Grace
- “It was cool! It was so amazing! I couldn’t believe my eyes!”- Adam
- “I liked it, It was so fun. It was bouncy and tickly”- Ella
- “We loved it!”- Amahni
- “I loved it”- Stavv and JJ
- “Great Fun”- Garang
Judging by the looks on the students’ faces, it’s safe to say that the new equipment has been a hit so far. We’re all looking forward to spending more time in the sensory room in the coming weeks.

This term Room 29 have been lucky enough to participate in Sensorium, exploring the book Ten Tiny Things. We have had so much fun engaging in the sensory retelling of the story, with lots of hands-on, interactive experiences using feathers, magnifying glasses, and sensory materials.
In week 3 we visited the vegetable garden to see Mrs Bennet’s chickens. It was very exciting getting to gently hold them and we had a great time discussing what names we would like to give them if they were our chickens. ‘Food’ and “McNuggets’ were two popular choices!
We also had a day where we remained in our own classes during Streamed Literacy, which allowed us to explore the communication group book ‘The Clowns New Clothes’. The children (and the staff!) had a wonderful time choosing different dress ups and checking out their new looks in the mirror.
This term in Talk for Writing we are learning all about the narrative Kassim the Greedy Dragon.
The Greedy Dragon left us clues all around the school to lead us the stolen jewels.
We have had fun learning the story and we can’t wait to write our own!
The school is currently holding a Book Fair in the library. If you would like to purchase books or quirky stationery, the Book Fair has it all. For every purchase made at the Book Fair, the school benefits so your support is appreciated.
The opening hours are:
- Monday, Tuesday and Thursday – 8.00am – 3.30pm
- Wednesday 1.00-3.30pm
Welcome to the latest update from our vibrant art room!
Our students have been on an exciting artistic journey, delving into the world of lines and exploring various techniques to express their creativity. The pop stick sculptures and Gelli plates' art experimentation with mono-printing have truly captivated our young artists. Gelli plates, resembling gelatin but reusable and non-edible, have provided a unique canvas for our students to learn different techniques, from using the Braye roller to masking and subtracting paint to create the lines they have been studying. Through mono-printing, they have discovered the magic of creating one-of-a-kind prints, sparking their imagination and artistic flair.
Our Year 1 and 2 students have been busy exploring art processes, from creating rainbow lighting with food colouring and water to crafting art pictures with salt and ink. It's been a joy to witness their creativity blossom and their enthusiasm for art grow.
Stay tuned for more updates on their artistic journey!
