Kaya families
A warm welcome back to term two. The seasons are changing, and as the weather is getting cooler more students will be wearing jumpers and jackets. Parents please make sure these have names in them, as students tend to take them off when they feel warm, and leave them where ever they have taken them off.
A reminder that school closes early (11:45) on Thursday 11 May. The school bus will not be picking students up at 11:45. Please ensure you have made arrangements to pick your children up. Parents, if your child goes to an out of school care provider, ensure you have made arrangements with them. Camp Australia have advised that they will not be operating after school on this day. The Primary School will be hosting parent/teacher meetings in the afternoon. We will be hosting parent/teacher meetings on the first day of term three.
We have had a change to our school photo days. School photos will now be on Tuesday 16 May and Thursday 18 May. Flyers have been sent home with your unique student number. More information can be found in this newsletter.
Ms Bennett and the WA Scout Group took our containers for change bin to be counted over the holidays. We returned 1,255 containers! What a great effort. These containers have earned the school $125.50, which will go towards our sustainability program.
Congratulations to the P&C on such a successful Easter Raffle! Isla Wilson was the golden ticket winner who walked away with the big prize! There were over 120 prizes given away… total monies raised was $2,607. Thank you to all the families who donated and purchased tickets to support our P&C.
Last week our Student Captains went on a leadership camp with leaders from other Education Support Centres. We had a fantastic time and students challenged themselves to try things they had never done before, such as sleep away from home, try the high ropes, archery and even have a shower rather than a bath. Our leaders have made our school so proud of their achievements.
All our Year Six students will be going on camp later in the year, and everyone is really looking forward to it.
Congratulations to all those who participated by joining in, watching or cheering for our cross country runners last week. It was a very well organised event. Huge thanks to Mrs Smith, Ms Martin and Mr Morrey for all the hard work in organising the day. The interschool event will be held on this Friday – and we have a few students representing both Primary Schools which is an outstanding effort.
Kind regards
Natalie Hatton

KEEP YOUR FLYER SECURE!

Sibling photos can ONLY be ordered online. Once you receive the personalised flyers for your children, it is imperative that you order your sibling photo early to avoid missing out! Room 22 practise for Cross Country
Congratulations students of Room 22! We worked super hard on our fitness and learnt the running track in preparation for Cross Country. Our dedication really shined as we all participated and had so much fun - everyone challenged themselves to do their best and should be super proud! We had our own presentation in our class to celebrate our achievements.
It was great to see everyone dressed in their faction colours, and we are all so excited for sports day!
The next big event we are looking forward to is the Week 7 assembly. We will be presenting a special performance. We are busy practising our roles, and we can’t wait to see you all there!
Room 3 gave a school holiday presentation.
Room 3 have had a fantastic start to Term 2. In the first week the students planned and gave a presentation all about what they did during the school holidays.
It was great to see the students work on their writing skills and recalling all of the exciting things they got up to during the holidays. They then used the app ‘Book Creator’ to put together their presentation.
We have also started our new text this term for Talk for Writing, “Kassim and the Greedy Dragon.”
The students have begun the ‘imitation’ stage of Talk for Writing where they come up with a story map and actions to help memorise the story. The students have been learning about adjectives and wrote a list of adjectives to describe Kassim and the greedy dragon.
Students in Room 1 have had a fantastic start to Term 2!
This term we will be looking at the narrative, ‘Kassim and the Greedy Dragon’, as part of our Talk for Writing Program. To start the program off we went on a classroom hunt in the sensory playground to look for clues that a greedy dragon had been at our school. We watched a video of a dragon at our school and needed to find evidence of where it could be hiding. During this hunt, we found the dragons footprints as well as a treasure chest full of gems and money. After this we created our very own dragon using tissue paper and patty pans. They all turned out amazing!
In Room 1 this term we will also be focussing on fitness and movement breaks. After completing our morning activities we like to go to K Block for our fitness time. We practice our balancing, running, jumping and social skills. This has helped make us feel energised for the day ahead!
WOW! What a year we are already having, and we are only in Term 2. We have been working super hard in Room 35.
We have been learning about healthy and unhealthy food and got to make our own healthy snacks in class. We have also been getting messy and creative with our artwork. Everyone has been having an absolute ball with learning the Gruffalo story for Talk for Writing sessions. We can even do the whole story with the actions we have learnt.
We have been exploring with different sensory items such as oobleck, playdough, kinaesthetic sand, rice, pasta, lentils and many more. We have created wonderful friendships in our class and have been learning how each of our communication devices work.
Year Six and Rooms 1, 2, and 3 are starting to design and create artwork for the City of Joondalup 25th Anniversary Art competition.
It’s very exciting. The winning art piece will be displayed on the digital tower at Yagan Square, and the competition artwork will be on display at the City of Joondalup libraries. It’s going to be very challenging to choose only six entries.
