Swimming Lessons
We have completed our in-term swimming for 2021. All students enjoyed swimming, and many passed the swimming grade they had been working toward which was fabulous! Despite having some very cold and wet weather students and staff were excited to be in the water each day.
We are hopeful that next year our swimming time will be during the warmer months. A huge thank you to parents for making sure everything was dry and ready for students the following day. Thank you to staff who volunteered to go in the water each day to support students learn the skills needed.
Education Support North Network- Concert
On Thursday a number of students performed at Belridge Secondary College’s performing arts centre in front of a number of their peers from other education support centres and schools. Some students performed an item they had been practising as a class, a unique version of Little Red Riding Hood. Some students performed a road safety item. It was a really enjoyable morning, as all students were able to perform, and watch others perform.
Funding pledge for playgrounds
Joondalup Education Support Centre and Joondalup Primary School are the recipients of two funding pledges, from the Labor party from both Burns Beach and Joondalup. Receiving a total of $130,000 the two schools will work together to build new play ground facilities in the kindergarten playground of the campus.
Parent Morning Teas
Each term we host two morning teas for our parents to come together. Sometimes we have guest speakers engage with parents about supports and information that may be useful to support themselves and families. Today we had our last morning tea for the term. We had a speaker from NDIS come and share his expertise and answer questions from families.
I highly encourage families to become involved if you have time on a Friday morning. Our next morning tea in Term 3 will be held on Friday 30 July.
Building Works Around Our Campus
You will have seen building works commenced on the car park upgrade last week. It is anticipated this work will be complete for the beginning of Term 3. 15 additional car bays and one ACROD bay will be built. This will ease congestion on the parking bays surrounding the school. To make room for the new car bays, our playground was dismantled with the intention of moving it to the other side of the basketball ball courts. Upon removal it appears it may not be appropriate for it to be rebuilt as there is rust at the footings of the equipment. We are currently liaising to negotiate a brand new playground to be built in this area.
Works will commence to upgrade the E Block office area over the holidays. Once complete we will have between 8 – 10 dedicated therapy spaces for students who engage in on-site therapy sessions at school. Finding space for students to work with therapists can be very challenging, so we are super excited that we will have specific dedicated spaces soon.
Works will also commence on the library and staff room. The library will be moving to where the staff room is and vice versa. The library will be at the front of the school giving more access for families to use this space together.
The new staff room will have an additional entry point built – giving direct access to three meeting rooms for families, therapists and staff to host meetings, or provide a quiet talking space when needed. We anticipate this project to be complete some time during Term 3. Our school library will remain closed until the works are finalised.
Cleaners
As WA transitions into Phase 5 of the Covid-19 roadmap we would like to thank the cleaning crew who have worked with us since Term 1 2020. Camilla, Christel, Jiranan and Sharon thank you for keeping our school safe during these challenging times. We wish you best of luck in your future endeavours.
Reports
School reports will be emailed to parents next Wednesday 30 June.
School Holidays
Friday 2 July is the last day of term two. School does not return until Tuesday 20 July as we have a Staff Development Day on Monday 19 July. I would like to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday, and look forward to seeing you all back next term.

Discovering Emotions with Room 21
Wow what a term full of different emotions it has been for Room 21; excitement, nervousness, happiness, exhaustion, and even sadness!
We had a super exiting time participating in different activities, when recognising the aboriginal community, over reconcilliation week - we even tried Kangaroo sausage!
Our Assembly had us feeling excited and nervous but we all performed and/or spoke like champions and we loved meeting Izzy.
We have been lucky to have many happy events, even including a few birthday celebrations.
Swimming lessons had us absolutely exhausted but we had so much fun learning to swim and especially enjoyed the bus trip there and back.
Sadly we had to say goodbye to Mrs Skinner (Mrs Skinny) because she left the school after being at JESC for 14 years!
In amongst all of this we have enjoyed learning within the classroom and On Country around the school. We can’t believe it is nearly holidays again!
Reading Fairy Tales with Room 33
This Term in Kindergarten we have been reading our favourite fairy tales. We have built the Three Little Pigs houses, grown great big beanstalks from Jack and the Beanstalk, baked bread with the Little Red Hen and this week, we have been reading ‘The Gingerbread Man’. We have drawn pictures and written about the gingerbread man, and how cheeky he is for running away! We then made the dough, rolled it out and baked it in the oven. Afterwards, we used our pictures as a template to decorate our gingerbread men – they were delicious!
Kaya Wanjoo
As this term in Sustainability throughout the campus comes to a close, we have begun to plant a new area with Bush Tucker and an orchard. It is near the existing vegetable garden. Come on over and take a look.
Our campus had an amazing Reconciliation Week. This was well attended by parents and caregivers and has been a wonderful opportunity to learn from our First Nation people how for 60 000 years they have lived sustainably, using only what is needed, respecting the environment and sharing their wonderful culture and knowledge.
After School Garden Club
Our small but dedicated group of students, parents and staff come together every Monday afternoon from 3.15 to 4pm to look after the garden.
This term we tended to the garden and helped with the establishment of our new orchard. Look out for Term 3 invitation soon.
Please continue to bring in:
- Batteries
- Coffee pods (make sure they are DRY and EMPTY). You can bag the grounds up and sent to school as well.
- Ring pulls from cans of drink
- Plastic lids from bottles (wash and remove inner seal)
- Containers for change bottles/cans (clean and LIDS removed). Place in the BIG blue recycling skip near the admin area
I attended a fantastic professional learning day where Sustainability and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander priorities were delivered in hands on lessons for us to take back to school. Did you know these priorities are taught in many different learning areas such as Science, HASS and Maths? Our school was acknowledged for our progressive journey in these two areas.
Happy gardening and sustainable thinking,
Sandra Bennett – Science/Sustainability Teacher (JESC). Sustainability Coordinator (Joondalup Schools)
Cats
The students in Room 22 listened to the story of "Cat and Fish go to see" by Joan Grant while viewing the great artwork by illustrator Neil Curtis. The illustrator has used the principle of contrast, with black and white pictures throughout the book. The students created their own collage cats in newspaper and felt pen.
Pizza
The students in Room 22 listened to the story "The Little Red Hen Makes Pizza". Working with the focus on the elements of form, colour and texture they created a sculpture of pizza on a plate.
Landscape
The element of Space was the focus for this piece of artwork. The students in Room 1 worked with techniques to create space on the page. They are size, colour, overlapping, higher up the page and detail.
Bags
The students attending Visual Arts created a Bag. This was a long term project involving many different elements. They drew a poppy and cut out a paper stencil. The poppy was silk screened onto calico. Puff paint was added to the centres of the flowers. Fabric crayons were used to make leaf rubbings. Most students then used the sewing machines to stitch the cushion cover up. An insect or spider was drawn and transferred onto the cushion cover using an iron on transfer. Fabric was plaited to create a handle and sewn on.
Helen Sweet
Art Specialist Teacher
Students this term have been participating in Taekwondo. Erin from ATI Martial Arts coached our students, delivering a program focusing on core strength and being safe and respectful. Students were presented with a white belt and a certificate at the end of the term.
Due to Covid lockdowns our school photo day had to be changed. The new dates are Week Two, Term Three on Tuesday 27 July and Thursday 29 July. More information will be provided regarding class and sibling photo times soon.
You will receive a new order form with the new dates. This only needs to be completed online if you have not already ordered your photos. Any orders placed in Term 1 will be honoured and processed once the student photos have been taken.
More information will be provided regarding class and sibling photo times soon.
Please note : Term 3 Planner is up to date as of 24 June 2021.
