Principals Report
Swimming Lessons
We have completed our in-term swimming for 2021. All students enjoyed swimming, and many passed the swimming grade they had been working toward which was fabulous! Despite having some very cold and wet weather students and staff were excited to be in the water each day.
We are hopeful that next year our swimming time will be during the warmer months. A huge thank you to parents for making sure everything was dry and ready for students the following day. Thank you to staff who volunteered to go in the water each day to support students learn the skills needed.
Education Support North Network- Concert
On Thursday a number of students performed at Belridge Secondary College’s performing arts centre in front of a number of their peers from other education support centres and schools. Some students performed an item they had been practising as a class, a unique version of Little Red Riding Hood. Some students performed a road safety item. It was a really enjoyable morning, as all students were able to perform, and watch others perform.

Funding pledge for playgrounds
Joondalup Education Support Centre and Joondalup Primary School are the recipients of two funding pledges, from the Labor party from both Burns Beach and Joondalup. Receiving a total of $130,000 the two schools will work together to build new play ground facilities in the kindergarten playground of the campus.
Parent Morning Teas
Each term we host two morning teas for our parents to come together. Sometimes we have guest speakers engage with parents about supports and information that may be useful to support themselves and families. Today we had our last morning tea for the term. We had a speaker from NDIS come and share his expertise and answer questions from families.
I highly encourage families to become involved if you have time on a Friday morning. Our next morning tea in Term 3 will be held on Friday 30 July.
Building Works Around Our Campus
You will have seen building works commenced on the car park upgrade last week. It is anticipated this work will be complete for the beginning of Term 3. 15 additional car bays and one ACROD bay will be built. This will ease congestion on the parking bays surrounding the school. To make room for the new car bays, our playground was dismantled with the intention of moving it to the other side of the basketball ball courts. Upon removal it appears it may not be appropriate for it to be rebuilt as there is rust at the footings of the equipment. We are currently liaising to negotiate a brand new playground to be built in this area.
Works will commence to upgrade the E Block office area over the holidays. Once complete we will have between 8 – 10 dedicated therapy spaces for students who engage in on-site therapy sessions at school. Finding space for students to work with therapists can be very challenging, so we are super excited that we will have specific dedicated spaces soon.
Works will also commence on the library and staff room. The library will be moving to where the staff room is and vice versa. The library will be at the front of the school giving more access for families to use this space together.
The new staff room will have an additional entry point built – giving direct access to three meeting rooms for families, therapists and staff to host meetings, or provide a quiet talking space when needed. We anticipate this project to be complete some time during Term 3. Our school library will remain closed until the works are finalised.
Cleaners
As WA transitions into Phase 5 of the Covid-19 roadmap we would like to thank the cleaning crew who have worked with us since Term 1 2020. Camilla, Christel, Jiranan and Sharon thank you for keeping our school safe during these challenging times. We wish you best of luck in your future endeavours.
Reports
School reports will be emailed to parents next Wednesday 30 June.
School Holidays
Friday 2 July is the last day of term two. School does not return until Tuesday 20 July as we have a Staff Development Day on Monday 19 July. I would like to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday, and look forward to seeing you all back next term.
