Colour Run
On Monday our campus participated in the annual P&C Colour Run. Students and families of all ages wore a white shirt and ran or walked laps around our oval while getting coloured! Students looked very impressive in coloured bands and sunglasses covered in red, blue, green, yellow and purple powder. All money raised during the colour run goes into P&C led initiatives. A huge thank you to Rachel Chambers, P&C members and all the families who played a part in organising such a fabulous afternoon.
Music Rocks Australia
On Saturday a number of students attended the Music Rocks Australia concert at the Rosemount Hotel. Students aged from Pre-Primary through to Year six took to the stage to perform in front of other students, families and lots of people they didn’t even know! Students played guitars, drums, the keyboard and vocals for a range of different cover songs.
Our very own Finlay was awarded the most improved musician on the day which was outstanding. Music Rocks Australia put on a concert every term, and it is always a fabulous day out.
Lantern Parade
On Saturday students, families and staff formed part of the annual City of Joondalup Lantern Parade Festival. The theme this year was Earth, Moon and Stars. Joondalup Primary School were represented by a number of students dressed in traditional Indonesian costume. These students played the angklungs, to the tune of “I Still Call Australia Home”, while also carrying models of the planets in our solar system.
Joondalup ESC students were dressed as stars from our galaxy, held star lanterns and walked with a large model of our Earth, which was held high for all to see by parents and staff. There were thousands of people who attended the festival and our students from all year groups joined in. A huge thank you to Sandra Bennett and Liz Hore for leading the organising of the parade. A huge thank you to all the parents, staff and students who gave up time after school and on weekends to create costumes, lanterns and props for the festival.
Interschool Carnival
Last week the Interschool Carnival was held at Windemere Oval with a number of schools from our Joondalup Learning Community. This year we had one student represent us in the 100 metre sprint. Karan Shah came fourth in this sprint, against a large number of schools, and very tough competition. Congratulations Karan on an amazing achievement!
Sensorium
Over the past five weeks we have had a number of junior students work with some artists in residence. The Sensorium Theatre Company has been working with our school for a number of years. This term they have been coming in every Thursday and performing with our students. The theme has been Wombat Stew which is a popular Australian fiction story. Students have thoroughly enjoyed these sessions. The performers have encouraged our students to be creative, and use their imagination, while learning many skills.
New students
We welcome two new students to our school. Kieran in Pre-Primary and Bailey in Year 5. If you see these students around the school be sure to say hello and make them feel welcome.
Joondalup Schools Fundraising Update
The Srang Free Dress Day held last Tuesday has raised $407.25, together with the funds rasied on Arts Night of $198.65 we have raised $605.90 for our sister school in Cambodia.
School Holidays
School holidays commence Saturday 13th April, and school returns on Monday 29th April. I wish all students, families and staff a safe and happy holiday. It is a big school holiday with Easter and ANZAC day falling during the holidays.
Have a fantastic break – and I look forward to seeing you all next term.
This term has really flown by and we have all had a blast. We have learnt to become more independent in everything we do and have lots of fun learning.
In Pre Primary we learn by playing, exploring and inquiring about the world around us.
Check out some of our activities.
Dear parents / carers
Just a quick reminder for families to be extra careful should they choose to pay charges / fees directly into our bank account. We have quite a few families who have students in both the Education Support Centre as well as the Primary School.
We are two separate schools and have completely separate accounting books and bank accounts. We are finding parents are paying funds into the incorrect school’s bank account for their children. It is a very convoluted process to pay funds between the two schools to correct these inadvertent mistakes.
The Education Support Centre’s bank details are:
BSB: 066 166
Account No: 1000 55 33
Please take care when paying over funds via online banking. Remember to always use your child’s name and the excursion/incursion details as the reference.
Thank you and have a great Easter holiday.

Manager Corporate Services
Over the last 5 weeks we have hosted Sensorium at our school. They have taken our Junior classes on a sensory ride through the story Wombat Stew. Students have enjoyed these sessions and have had a fun time learning the story through music.
On Wednesday we waived off our Student Councillors who were joining with students from Westminster, Beldon, Creaney and South Ballajurra Education Support Centres. This will be a great opportunity for our Councillors to meet Councillors from other schools to discuss and share ideas. In our first newsletter next term we will have articles written by our students reflecting on the camp.
Wow, what a fabulous Term we have had in Streamed Literacy! Students have settled in to their respective programs and are completing some fun and exciting activities. The Multi-Lit groups are demonstrating some very high achievements whilst the students participating in the alphabet groups are thriving from the interactive activities. Those in the communication group are enjoying the hands on activities and utilising their devices well. Staff have been bursting with excitement to see how well all students are succeeding.
Professional Development
We attended the Language, Literacy and Learning Conference ran by Dyslexia SPELD Foundation on Thursday 4th April through to Saturday 6th April. DSF brought together experts in the fields of language development to further improve our understanding of how to best support the growth of all children. We have come back with a greater level of knowledge of how we can implement different aspects of literacy into our school.
Using Technology to Stay in Touch
Room 7 have been missing their classmate Vision who has been away from school as he has been unwell. They wanted to wish him a happy Easter and there was no better way to do that than using Facetime. Everyone gathered on the mat and made the call. Vision was very happy to hear from everyone.
On Wednesday March 27th after an early train ride full of anticipation and excitement our Year 6 Student and Sport Councillors arrived at the Perth Exhibition and Convention Centre to attend the GRIP Leadership Conference. They were greeted by engaging hosts and 1500 excited leaders from schools across Perth. There were games, activities, dancing and lots of learning about being a great leader with the focus being; generosity, responsibility, integrity and people.
Our students shared recess and lunch with their fellow leaders and had some great discussions about how they can be great leaders around their schools, then before they knew it they were back on the train heading home with wonderful memories of a great day!
Congratulations to Karan placing 4th in our Interschool Carnival competing in the 100m sprint. Karan was not only representing Joondalup ESC but also Joondalup PS. An absolutely outstanding achievement!
Unfortunately After School Sports will not be offered in Term 2 as we were unsuccessful in our grant request. We rely on this grant to be able to offer the After School Sports program to our students. We will keep you updated if we are successful for term 3.
What a fantastic afternoon that was enjoyed by everyone. We had perfect weather, music was playing across the oval and lots of fun was had by students, staff and families. We hope you enjoy looking at the photos.
The Canteen are always looking for volunteers to assist them. If you have some spare time please contact the canteen or complete the below form and return it to the school.
Did you know that the Canteen can supply cupcakes to your child's classroom for their Birthday. If you would like to know more have a chat to Carolyn in the Canteen.
Colour Run
On behalf of Joondalup Primary Schools P&C we would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who donated money for this year’s Colour Run. It was our second year putting on this fun event and with the support we are receiving via donations, volunteers and the great enthusiasm we see from the kids each year - it will continue in 2020. The run wouldn’t be possible without the help of volunteers, so a big shout out to all those who donated their valuable time. The funds raised from this year’s run will be combined with other funds raised to go towards items around the school.
Thank you to everyone who generously purchased raffle tickets and kindly donated some chocolate treats for our annual Easter Raffle. We were able to make up 40 prizes for this year’s raffle thanks to everyone’s donations! It is with great delight that we get to hand these out to so many happy little winning faces each year. Once again these funds will be spent directly on our school, and despite it being such a busy start to the year – thank you so much for all your support.
The P&C Meetings are held every third Wednesday of the month and take place in the School Library at 7.oopm. The first meeting will be held next Wednesday, 20th February, everyone is welcome to attend!
Please see the P&C dates for the year.
