Colour Run

On Monday our campus participated in the annual P&C Colour Run. Students and families of all ages wore a white shirt and ran or walked laps around our oval while getting coloured! Students looked very impressive in coloured bands and sunglasses covered in red, blue, green, yellow and purple powder. All money raised during the colour run goes into P&C led initiatives. A huge thank you to Rachel Chambers, P&C members and all the families who played a part in organising such a fabulous afternoon.

 Music Rocks Australia

On Saturday a number of students attended the Music Rocks Australia concert at the Rosemount Hotel. Students aged from Pre-Primary through to Year six took to the stage to perform in front of other students, families and lots of people they didn’t even know! Students played guitars, drums, the keyboard and vocals for a range of different cover songs.

Our very own Finlay was awarded the most improved musician on the day which was outstanding. Music Rocks Australia put on a concert every term, and it is always a fabulous day out.

Lantern Parade

On Saturday students, families and staff formed part of the annual City of Joondalup Lantern Parade Festival. The theme this year was Earth, Moon and Stars. Joondalup Primary School were represented by a number of students dressed in traditional Indonesian costume. These students played the angklungs, to the tune of “I Still Call Australia Home”, while also carrying models of the planets in our solar system.

Joondalup ESC students were dressed as stars from our galaxy, held star lanterns and walked with a large model of our Earth, which was held high for all to see by parents and staff. There were thousands of people who attended the festival and our students from all year groups joined in. A huge thank you to Sandra Bennett and Liz Hore for leading the organising of the parade. A huge thank you to all the parents, staff and students who gave up time after school and on weekends to create costumes, lanterns and props for the festival.

Interschool Carnival

Last week the Interschool Carnival was held at Windemere Oval with a number of schools from our Joondalup Learning Community. This year we had one student represent us in the 100 metre sprint. Karan Shah came fourth in this sprint, against a large number of schools, and very tough competition. Congratulations Karan on an amazing achievement!

Sensorium

Over the past five weeks we have had a number of junior students work with some artists in residence. The Sensorium Theatre Company has been working with our school for a number of years. This term they have been coming in every Thursday and performing with our students. The theme has been Wombat Stew which is a popular Australian fiction story. Students have thoroughly enjoyed these sessions. The performers have encouraged our students to be creative, and use their imagination, while learning many skills.

New students

We welcome two new students to our school. Kieran in Pre-Primary and Bailey in Year 5. If you see these students around the school be sure to say hello and make them feel welcome.

Joondalup Schools Fundraising Update

The Srang Free Dress Day held last Tuesday has raised $407.25, together with the funds rasied on Arts Night of $198.65 we have raised $605.90 for our sister school in Cambodia.

School Holidays

School holidays commence Saturday 13th April, and school returns on Monday 29th April. I wish all students, families and staff a safe and happy holiday. It is a big school holiday with Easter and ANZAC day falling during the holidays.

Have a fantastic break – and I look forward to seeing you all next term.
