AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication)
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) is a term used to describe the broad range of communication methods that are used to support or replace speech. Many of us use some of these communication strategies in everyday life such as body language, gesture or by facial expression. Where there is a language or speech difficulty there are low and high tech supports implemented at Joondalup Education Support Centre (JESC) to facilitate your child to communicate and have a voice.
At JESC, we support the belief that every student has the right to be able to communicate. We are so passionate about this basic human right that we have made it a priority within the school.
We often have students at our Centre with complex communication needs (CCN) such as speech or language difficulties. We strive to give them a “voice” by supporting them to communicate using AAC.
