Staff Development Day
Friday 29 May is a Staff Development Day. School is not open for students on this day. Students will return to school on Tuesday 2 June after the WA Public Holiday.
Canteen
Our canteen has reopened! Please be aware the canteen does not currently accept cash, and all students must pre-order both recess and lunch. There is more information from the Canteen further in the newsletter.
WA Week
We will be celebrating WA Week in Week 6 this term. Friday 5 June will be a free dress day and students are encouraged to wear something symbolising “WA”. A colouring competition will be running throughout the week and the ladies in the canteen will be choosing winning entries.
NAIDOC Week
We will be celebrating NAIDOC Week this term in Week 10. On Wednesday 1 July students engage in a number of activities to celebrate Aboriginal Culture together with the Primary School.
School Photos
Our school photos have been rescheduled for later in the year. We have planned to have our school photos on Thursday 12 November, which is in Term 4.
P&C
I would like to thank the outgoing P&C members for their hard work and dedication to supporting our schools. If you are interested in learning more about the P&C and or nominate for a position please contact us in the office.
Reports
As you are aware reports will look very different this semester. You will receive a very simple report where teachers will comment on the progress your children have made. All IEP outcomes will be marked as “not assessed”. You will receive a comment about your child’s progress in English, Mathematics and an overall general comment.
This semester will be our first semester where all reports will be emailed to you electronically. If you require the school to send the report to more than one email address please let us know.
Natalie Hatton
Principal
We have seen some fantastic work come up to the office. Students are so proud of their work and we love to see and hear about it.
Building On Strength In Uncertain Times
A video has been produced that we have been asked to share with our school community.
The video provides a relatable and culturally responsive information for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff, parents and community members about these challenging times for both a system level and Aboriginal perspective.
The video is narrated by the Department's Elders in Residence and senior Aboriginal staff.
These messages are relevant to all school communities and highlight the 2020 National Reconciliation Week them - In This Together, which resonates at this time, as it reminds us whether in a crisis or in reconciliation, we are all "in this together".
It's all about Minibeasts in Room 23A
This Term we are learning all about Minibeasts! So far we have read, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Bad Tempered Ladybird by Eric Carle. We are learning about all the different animals in these books and have been creating some beautiful artwork.
A few weeks ago, we enjoyed our first cooking experience for the year, baking and decorating biscuits for Mother’s Day. We all helped by measuring, sifting and mixing the ingredients. We then put our love heart biscuits into the oven to bake. Next we made pink icing then decorated our biscuits with hundreds and thousands.
We can’t wait to continue reading more books about minibeasts this Term, I wonder what minibeast we will learn about next?
George, Henry, Jasmine, Jaxon, Rahaf, Teddy, Mrs Spicer, Mrs Granville, Mrs Norman and Miss Abbott.
Busy Start to the Term for Room 2
It has been wonderful to welcome everyone back in Term 2.
We have enjoyed being active whilst being mindful of keeping a safe distance in our activities. Some of us have shown our skills when flying a kite.
Taking part in some Minecraft Yoga is also keeping us fit.
Whilst outside we have also been able to plant our seeds and we are very keen to see them grow. Having read the book, ‘I Am Your New Plant’ we now know why the sentence, ‘Then, be patient.’ was found on seven of the twelve pages!
Zavier has been working with great concentration to develop his colouring skills.
Levi and Kobe have been busy working with numbers up to 999.
Xavier has used ‘counting on’ to complete his Traffic Light addition.
We have also enjoyed celebrating Xavier and Kobe’s birthday this month.
Celebrating National Plant a Vegetable Garden Day with Room 9
This Term, Room 9 are learning about celebrations during our HASS sessions.
Did you know, Tuesday 19 May is ‘National Plant a Vegetable Garden Day”? To recognise the day, we planted our own beans.
Mrs Rushworth read a story called “I am Your New Plant” which taught us that plants need soil, water and sun to grow. We filled a pot with soil, then planted our bean in it. During the story we learnt that plants need water to grow so we gave our newly planted bean a drink of water.
We have all started a journal in which we will record how tall our bean grows. To help them grow, we will have to remember to put our bean plants outside in the sunshine each day. Each week we will measure the height of our plants and record the data.
If you notice any suspicious activity on School Grounds, please contact Security on 9264 4771 or the Police on 131 444.
Primary Colour Monsters
Students from across the school revised the elements of line and colour. Using lines of their choice and the primary colours they created monsters.
Abstract
The students in Rooms 2 & 3 printed straight black lines and then coloured areas with primary colours to create an abstract.
Mouse Paint
After listening to the story Mouse Paint, the students in Rooms 2 & 3 painted with the primary colours and mixed the secondary colours. Mice were then torn out of paper and pasted on. The students cut ears and tails to add then drew in the eyes and whiskers with felt pen.
Helen Sweet
Art Specialist Teacher
This week we have had workmen on site to complete the parking area near the new storage shed. The carpark is being relayed and marked to allow more parking spaces. It certainly was a busy area this week and students enjoyed watching the heavy machinery.
Dear Parents,
Re: Cashless Canteen Update
If you wish to order recess/lunch for your child, but don't wish to proceed with the online option; Quickcliq, then simply call the canteen & set up an account over phone via VISA or Mastercard.
Recess - your child needs to come to canteen in the morning on their way to class to place an order, it will then be ready at recess for collection.
Lunch – simply fill out a lunch bag & your child is to place it in their class room crate or drop at canteen on their way to class.
Monies spent will then be deducted from account accordingly. You will receive an SMS alert when funds are getting low.
Birthday cupcakes are still available to be ordered through Quickcliq or alternatively give us a call 9233 5818.
We would like to thank you all for your positive feedback regarding the move to a Cashless System. We appreciate it is a big change & have been overwhelmed by such a great response.
It is great to be back in the canteen cooking up a storm. We have had an awesome first week back!
Thank you
Carolyn
