Room 26 have enjoyed returning to class this term and have shared our stories from the break and celebrated David’s birthday.
This semester in Geography we have been exploring maps. We have looked at features of places around us and realise they look different on maps when viewed from above.
We have recently used Google Maps to explore the many different types of views that are available to us. These include close up street views, over-head, and ground level images. We have compared these to a version from a street directory.
We have discussed images we see from an overhead view like bridges, buildings, lakes, freeways, airports parks and schools and how these images are represented on maps and labelled them on our own maps.
Maps have many different purposes and are used by tourists, transport drivers, for town planning and to show us the world in political view- that is countries.
Architects also create floor plans. A floor plan is a map. We have drawn a floor plan of our own home. This was tricky for the teachers and students!
Some of us have learned about seating plans. This is also a map and we use them to find our seats in a large area when attending an event.
Tourists also use maps when they visit places on their travels such as going to the zoo and for other sightseeing.
We have learnt about how maps help us explore and we have been on a treasure hunt while following our maps instructions to move around the school grounds.
We have used our maths skills to plot coordinates to discover how to read maps. This skill also helped us find countries in an atlas.
Following on from the 2D artwork of dinosaur skeletons that students from Room 16 created, the students worked with form to create these great dinosaurs using clay. First they made two pinch pots and then joined them together to create the body. The head, neck and limbs were then added. Once the work was fired the students painted them with a speckled glaze.

Welcome back for Term 4. This is the term we harvest our Spring vegetables and get our garden ready for the Summer months.
The after School Garden Club will commence in Week 2 and finish in Week 8. There will be no club in weeks 3 & 7 due to whole school staff meetings. Numbers are limited to 20, so fill the form out below and return to your teacher or the office. Spare forms are available at the office.
This term will see another worm farm come into action as we endeavour to recycle most of our organic food scraps and move further along in our sustainability journey.
Our Garden Club came 3rd in the Perth Royal Show, so congratulations to everyone involved in growing, nurturing and making our displays.
During the last week of Term 3 the Garden and Moorditj club members made their own pizzas and celebrated a fabulous term of ‘teamwork’. A fabulous time was had by all.
Woolworths has kindly donated a display box and raised garden bed for collection of these seed packs. The schools would appreciate any donations. Drop them down near the collection box outside the office.Once the seedlings are mature enough, they will be planted just inside the front school gates so you can observe the progress of the plants. Classes will have the opportunity to care and record their observations of growth. A big thank you to Jay Ferguson for looking after these seedlings during the holidays.

I am pleased to announce that we now have a Grow Free Cart that is set up near the office. The cart has been painted by the staff from Room 21 and Room 21 students will become the custodians of the cart.
"How does the cart work?" We have a simple answer: you give what you can, and take what you need. There are no prices, no bartering, no trading, no value. Like you would with family and loved ones.
What can I put on the cart?
Homegrown or homemade produce: fruit, veg, herbs, preserves, eggs, etc. Preferably grown with organic principles, without toxins. Grown with love is a strict prerequisite! Seeds, seedlings, cuttings and rootstock (Please label all, and heirloom seeds are best, as they can be saved from) All things gardening, whether it be gardening magazines, planters, worm tea, jars , paper bags and small boxes for seeds or produce.
Happy gardening and recycling,
Sandra & Stacey – Sustainability Coordinators
