Welcome back to the school year, I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer and is ready and excited to be back at school.
This week Craft Club, Garden Club, and Music Rocks programs commenced after school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Our After School Sports Program will commence in week three on Thursdays. These programs are completely free and totally subsidised by the school. The campus also has a Breakfast Club which runs on Wednesday mornings for all students who would like to attend. It operates out of H Block and has toast on offer for students who would like a piece or two. Sometimes there are baked beans and milo depending on what is available at the time.
We have a notice board out the front of the office which is updated every day with everything that is happening around the campus. If you walk past make sure you have a look at all the exciting things happening at school each day. If you have family members and friends who would like to receive our newsletter each fortnight they can subscribe to atomically receive our newsletters. Alternatively, if your email address has changed please tell us so we can update your records.
Our school car park is extremely busy in mornings and afternoons. The car park is not the Kiss and Drive area, so please do not stop behind other vehicles to drop your children off or pick them up. The Kiss and Drive area is on Candlewood Crescent and students can walk up the footpath into the school grounds. If you wish to stop and get out of the car please park in a car bay, and not behind other cars. We have had a number of near misses with students due to cars not following the parking rules.
Last week our P&C organised to have the walls in student toilets decorated with affirmations. All the blocks look absolutely beautiful. The P&C are able to do things like this through donations received from families and the community. Events such as the Colour Run, raffles, stalls, special canteen days all go to the P&C who plan to enhance our campus, and purchase resources for our students. Below is what our B Block toilets look like.
Throughout the year you may be asked to contribute money towards excursions, swimming lessons, camps, incursions etc. We do our best to ensure that we subsidise families to minimise the cost incurred. Transport is often the most expensive part of our planning, with large buses costing in excess of $300 each day. We also strive to give our students as many opportunities as possible from a large range of places such as St John first aid, Constable Care and Scitech. Every year families are asked to contribute $60 towards curriculum materials, resources and equipment to support our students. This payment is purely voluntary, and every cent received is used for our students.
Over the school holidays we had a number of refurbishments occur throughout the school enhancing our learning areas, and making classrooms as safe and clean as possible. We have had gas heaters removed, and have had the evaporative air conditioner removed from B Block. This is a positive strategy to keep our classroom free from dust. All classrooms have reverse cycle air-conditioning.
At the end of 2018 parents had the opportunity to complete a school survey. This survey is sent out every 2 years and helps inform the school about ways we can improve. Below are the responses from the people who responded to the survey.

Welcome to our Kindy Class for 2019
We have had a very busy start to the year in Kindy, with nine new students starting their school career! In Kindy A we have Michal, Jasmine, Jaxon and Connor, and in Kindy B, we have Oliver, Cohen, Tommy, Rahaf and George. We have spent the first week getting to know each other, our teachers, and the school with lots of fun activities in between.
Look Whats Been Happening in Room 22
We have had a fantastic first two weeks in Room 22. We have done dancing, singing and lots of art and craft. We love practicing our fine motor skills and using our PODD books.
We have done lots of counting in maths. We were able to count the letters in our name and represent these with concrete materials.
Our Year 6 students have had a great start to their final year at Joondalup Education Support Centre. They look very smart in their graduation shirts. We look forward to following their achievements this year.
During the Summer Holidays we have had some changes made to the campus. Behind the Gardeners Shed a new space has been created for a new outdoor learning area. This area will be a fantastic asset to our school. We have also had work done to our Garden area, creating a new space which will be used to establish a potting area. The campus is continually evolving to enhance our students learning.
If you notice any suspicious activity on School Grounds, please contact Security on 9264 4771 or the Police on 131 444.
Today is Mrs Ailsa Legge’s last day with us. Mrs Legge has been at Joondalup Education Support Centre for many years and has been a dedicated, hard working, committed educator who has supported many many students over the years learn and grow. Mrs Legge will be incredibly missed by all staff, students and families and we wish her all the very best as she begins a new life chapter in Busselton.
Our Graduating Class of 2018 Started High School
Our Graduating Class have started their new education journey at Belridge Secondary ESC last week. It is great to see them in their new uniform ready for the year ahead. We are missing a photo of Adele, so we hope she is enjoying her new school.
Students in Room 27 have been looking at Abstract Art. They have looked at work created by Piet Mondrian and then created some beautiful paper collages using primary colours.
The Campus now has letterboxes outside of the Administration building. Please use the mailboxes to deposit any notes that need returning or payments for excursions/incursions.

Recently, the toilet blocks at JPS received a makeover!
The P&C initiative funded two local, talented artists to brighten up the toilets with inspirational quotes for the students. Each toilet block has a different quote and amazing artwork to compliment it. Feedback to date from the students and staff has been extremely positive! Scroll through the gallery of photos below to see all of the designs.
If you have any ideas you would like to see happen at the school, please come along to one of our P&C meetings which are held on the third Wednesday of every month in the School Library at 7pm.
