Principals Report

Welcome_Back_Image.jpg

Welcome back to the school year, I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer and is ready and excited to be back at school.

This week Craft Club, Garden Club, and Music Rocks programs commenced after school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Our After School Sports Program will commence in week three on Thursdays. These programs are completely free and totally subsidised by the school. The campus also has a Breakfast Club which runs on Wednesday mornings for all students who would like to attend. It operates out of H Block and has toast on offer for students who would like a piece or two. Sometimes there are baked beans and milo depending on what is available at the time.

We have a notice board out the front of the office which is updated every day with everything that is happening around the campus. If you walk past make sure you have a look at all the exciting things happening at school each day. If you have family members and friends who would like to receive our newsletter each fortnight they can subscribe to atomically receive our newsletters. Alternatively, if your email address has changed please tell us so we can update your records.

Our school car park is extremely busy in mornings and afternoons. The car park is not the Kiss and Drive area, so please do not stop behind other vehicles to drop your children off or pick them up. The Kiss and Drive area is on Candlewood Crescent and students can walk up the footpath into the school grounds. If you wish to stop and get out of the car please park in a car bay, and not behind other cars. We have had a number of near misses with students due to cars not following the parking rules.

Last week our P&C organised to have the walls in student toilets decorated with affirmations. All the blocks look absolutely beautiful. The P&C are able to do things like this through donations received from families and the community. Events such as the Colour Run, raffles, stalls, special canteen days all go to the P&C who plan to enhance our campus, and purchase resources for our students. Below is what our B Block toilets look like.

Throughout the year you may be asked to contribute money towards excursions, swimming lessons, camps, incursions etc. We do our best to ensure that we subsidise families to minimise the cost incurred. Transport is often the most expensive part of our planning, with large buses costing in excess of $300 each day. We also strive to give our students as many opportunities as possible from a large range of places such as St John first aid, Constable Care and Scitech. Every year families are asked to contribute $60 towards curriculum materials, resources and equipment to support our students. This payment is purely voluntary, and every cent received is used for our students.

Over the school holidays we had a number of refurbishments occur throughout the school enhancing our learning areas, and making classrooms as safe and clean as possible. We have had gas heaters removed, and have had the evaporative air conditioner removed from B Block. This is a positive strategy to keep our classroom free from dust. All classrooms have reverse cycle air-conditioning.

At the end of 2018 parents had the opportunity to complete a school survey. This survey is sent out every 2 years and helps inform the school about ways we can improve. Below are the responses from the people who responded to the survey.

We have a parent morning tea on Friday 8th March. If you are available, it would be lovely to see as many people as possible join together. At this morning tea I will find out the best times families would like to meet together, how often, and if there is information, or speakers you would like have come out, for example speakers about the NDIS. I look forward to seeing you there.
