Cross Country
All Pre-Primary – Year 6 students participated in the Joondalup Schools Cross Country event on Thursday 30th of May. Our students represented Joondalup Education Support Centre with pride and every student completed the race. I am excited to say we have three students who have qualified to be part of the Joondalup Schools Interschool Cross Country Team. Congratulations to James, Cameron and Malachi who will be competing against other primary schools at the interschool event on Wednesday 7th of August.
School Development Day
Last Friday 31st of May all staff attended a School Development Day. This day was facilitated by Jenny Cole from BEAM Consulting. Jenny facilitated sessions about planning for our school’s strategic planning, vision and priorities. From our planning and discussion on this day, work around our new Business Plan and school targets will be created. We will continue to work with staff and the School Board on this.
WA Day
This week is WA Week! Students have celebrated by taking a whole campus photo in the shape of WA. On Thursday we dressed up as our favourite WA team or something that represents WA. We had a number of tabloid games which we did together as a whole campus. It has been a great week.
Parking Situation
A number of families have shared their growing concerns about the lack of and difficulty parking to pick up and drop of students in the morning and afternoon. I am aware of these concerns and how frustrating it is for you. I have met with the Department of Education about possible solutions to adjust current parking and adding new parking. Some of the difficulty surrounding increasing parking is ownership of the land. Any additional land on the verge belongs to the City of Joondalup. On Monday 10th of June I have a site meeting with representatives from the Department of Education and the City of Joondalup to see what solutions we can find for additional parking. I will be putting forward the notion that if families have an ACROD permit in their car (or equivalent to) that they are exempt from verge parking if all other parking is not available. I will keep you updated after the meeting on the 10th.
P&C
The P&C were fundraising for our School Campus during the Saturday of the Federal Election. They raised $2500 on this day from raffles and a sausage sizzle. What a fantastic effort, thank you.
Classroom Numbers
We have had a change in our room numbers now that Kindy and a Pre Primary class are in new rooms.
They are as follows;
Room 22 is now known as Room 21 (as they have both classrooms)
Kindergarten is now in Room 28
Ms. Bennett’s Pre-Primary class is now in Room 29.
School Photos
School photos are coming up! The timetable for individual and class photos is attached. Please ensure your child is at school on time and in complete school uniform on this day. It is preferred that Year 6 students wear graduation shirts. Information from Kapture photos will be coming out soon, if you would like sibling photos please ensure you order these online as this is the only method for ordering.

In our health lessons this semester we have been discussing healthy food and living. We have completed a range of activities including keeping a food and exercise journal for a day. The students have learned the importance of eating a healthy balanced diet and exercising regularly.
We have just commenced a five-week Parkour incursion. This involves focusing on developing the fundamental attributes required for movement. These movements include running, jumping, climbing, crawling, swinging and vaulting. The students had a lot of fun practising some of these skills.
In The Garden – Art with Mrs Sweet
Room 7 students are very lucky to go to our Art Specialist Mrs Sweet every Wednesday. We get the opportunity to explore all forms of art media.
Collage, Working with Texture and Colour is just one of our achievments.
Mrs Sweet took us through a process of;
- wax crayon rubbing of leaves we collected
- monoprinting with acrylic
- mixing blue and yellow dye, then spray painting our background and adding salt to create texture
- Using primary colours to make secondary colours to paint our snails
- Creating beautiful flowers inspired by Georgia O’Keefe using oil pastels and baby oil
We are so proud of our art work!

When the Fire Brigade Came to School
This Term, junior students are learning about Emergency Services. On Tuesday 28th of May we had a visit from the Joondalup Fire Station.
Four fire fighters visited our school, and brought two different fire trucks to show us. They told us all about being a fire fighter, describing the safety uniform they wear and the equipment they use.
Everyone got a chance to practise their firefighting skills by turning on the hose. As the fire fighters left, they even turned on the lights and siren for us like they do in an emergency!
Everyone had a wonderful time.
Rooms 1, 2, 7, 16 and 26 have been working with texture to create these fantastic prints. Students were able to use a gel press to print them.

Everyone has had a great time at swimming, although being quite tired by the end of the two weeks. Some students had the opportunity to start learning about swimming survival skills using life jackets.
Students from Joondalup ESC showed they can run with the best of them at Faction Cross Country Carnival held at Winderemere Oval on Thursday the 30th of May.
