Assembly update
The next assembly will be held on Tuesday 24 May 2022 at 2.15pm. The assembly theme leads into the school’s recognition of National Sorry Day on Thursday 26 May and National Reconciliation Week commencing on Friday 27 May.
Mother’s Day stall – Thank you!
Thank you to the P&C Association’s for arranging a wonderful Mother’s Day stall. If you were lucky enough to receive a gift, I hope that you enjoyed your treat.
P&C Association
Joondalup Schools has always been very well supported by the P&C Association. The work of current and past volunteers has given us the Nature Play area, allowed school camp fees to be subsidised, ensured that we have canteen, organised the Colour Run, purchased the Interschool Athletics shirts, helped at Carols events, organised sausage sizzles and numerous stalls, and so much more.
Currently the P&C Association is dwindling in the number of volunteers and the amount of time that people can give. I would strongly encourage you to think about how you might be involved in the P&C Association. The next meeting is Wednesday 8 June 2022 at 7.00pm at the school. Mark it in your diary and plan to come along.
School Development Day
Please remember that Friday 3 June is a School Development Day so no children come to school.
Kind regards,
Jan Tucker
Associate Principal

National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week
26 May is National Sorry Day which was first recognised in 1998, one year after the ‘Bringing them Home’ report was tabled in Parliament. National Sorry Day recognises and reflects upon the impact of the arrival of the first Europeans on First Nations people. It also recognises those people in the Stolen Generation and the ongoing hurt that many First Nation families experienced when families were separated by the Government.
Classes will create a window display of the purple Native Hibiscus, the flower chosen by the Kimberley Stolen Generations Aboriginal Corporation members, to symbolise the scattering of the children and young people in the Stolen Generation. The flower was adopted because it is widely found across Australia and it is a survivor. Its purple colour denotes compassion and healing.
27 May to 3 June is National Reconciliation Week and during this week classes will be building their knowledge and understanding of the ongoing journey to have strong relationships between indigenous and non-indigenous people. We are making the most of this opportunity to understand what we can do to achieve reconciliation. This year’s theme is “Be Brave, Make Change”.
Room 1 practised Maths and English
We have had a busy start to Term 2, working on place value, fractions, division and many more maths concepts.
English has involved practising our sentence structure, spelling, nouns, verbs and adjectives – all skills we need to help us complete our Talk 4 Writing activities based on Possum Magic.
However, the most important job we have had was making cards and gifts for our very special mums for Mother’s Day.
Look out for the window display we will be creating to commemorate and celebrate Sorry Day, Reconciliation Day and Naidoc Week.
After all that, we even had time to make ourselves a treat of hot chocolate and pikelets. YUM!!!!
The students in Room 22 have been working very hard this week and should all be proud of themselves. At the start of the week, we had a visitor in our classroom… The student’s investigated the clues and came to the conclusion the visitor was… the Gruffalo!
Room 21 have been enjoying their time back at school and were straight back into the swing of things! We have enjoyed catching up with our friends and learning about what everyone got up to over the holidays! Last week, we enjoyed making our Mother’s Day gifts. We had lots of fun decorating mugs for our Mums, making biscuits and designing our cards. We hope all the Mums had a lovely Mother’s Day!
We look forward to participating in lots of activities related to Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week in the coming weeks and focusing on the 2022 theme, “Be Brave. Make Change.”.
We can’t wait for the rest of the term!
From Room 21 – Aamiley, Adhi, Charlotte, Jason, Michal, Nikita, Radhesh, Miss Booth, Mrs C and Mrs Mahony J
Room 35 have had a great start to the Term!
What a great start we have had in Room 35 for Term 2!
We have been doing many amazing craft and fine motor activities to get small muscles moving.
We have been having so many conversations with each other talking about our interests and we are so amazed by how many more things we learn about each other.
We sure have been getting very creative and hands on in our classroom such as playing with playdough, using our artistic skills for painting, practicing writing our names and using our fine motor skills for all other different kinds of activities. Dancing is one our favourite things to do as part of our morning routine and saying good morning to all our friends and teachers every day.
We are always excited to come to school and can’t wait for the rest of the term.
We must be the change we wish to see.

Why are JESC students collecting and recycling:
- soft plastic bread bags?
- bread tags?
Trillions of plastics are made each year, many lasting up to a thousand years…
About 5 percent goes to recycling…
50 percent to landfill…
The rest finds its way into the environment, eventually out to sea forming enormous garbage gyres!
Since the beginning of Term Two, students from PP-6 have been extremely proactive in bringing in bread tags and soft plastic bread bags to recycle, so they do not end up in landfill…or our oceans!
Hens
The students created a ceramic hen to hang on the wall.
Forks were used to create the texture of feathers. Once the pieces had been bisque fired an oxide stain was painted on to highlight the texture. Underglaze was used to colour the feet, eyes, comb and wattle. A clear glaze was painted over the top to seal it. After the second firing the feet were attached.
The Election Day food stall is operating from 8am until 2pm this Saturday. Come down and support our schools by voting and grabbing a bacon and egg roll or a snagger. Big thanks to Candlewood IGA for their continual support via donations. All profits go directly back into our schools.
Help needed! The P&C require some volunteers to help run the Election Day sausage sizzle on Saturday 21 May.
We need two helpers from 11:00am - 2pm.
Please message Jen on 0403904157 if you can help.
On Friday 20 May we say THANK YOU to all of WA’s amazing P&Cs for contributing so much to our schools. P&C volunteers are a shining light within school communities, their dedication and passion help to provide WA students with the excellent educational journey they deserve.
In 2021 WA P&Cs made huge contributions to our schools, donating an impressive collective total of $17.2 million. P&C members also volunteered a whopping 581,672 hours of their time, which has an estimated total of $28 million. It's essential to recognise that each hour volunteered and dollar donated helps to ensure students across WA have an exceptional educational journey.
We encourage school communities to get onboard, share the P&C shine, and let your local P&C know that you see all the amazing things they do.

Starkick is an All Abilities football team for children. Founded and launched by the Coolbinia Bombers JFC in 2015, the program promotes inclusion, equality and opportunity and runs as an integral part of the Clubs Auskick Centre. Joondalup Kinross Junior Football Club introduced a Starkick team in 2016.

Starkick runs as part of the Auskick program on Saturday mornings at Windermere Oval, Joondalup.
Starkick aims to cater for all disabilities and runs by a simple mantra – “If you want to play we will find a way”
