Let's Talk with AAC
Last month Danielle Price and I were fortunate enough to attend a Professional Development Day on PODD for speech generating devices. Supporting our students at school using PODD is one of our priorities and this was an amazing opportunity to hear about PODD for speech generating devices directly from the developer of PODD, Gayle Porter.
Gayle spoke about the different levels available to users and the progression that can be made as skills develop. She discussed ways to use the PODD in the classroom in an academic and social environment. We got to practice editing and programming and experimented with creating story specific displays that could be used to support literacy.
Gayle discussed the importance of ensuring the communication device is available at all times.
The long term aim is for autonomous communication is being able to say what I want to say, to whoever I want to say it to, whenever I want to say it, however I want to say it.
If you have any queries regarding your child’s communication, please don’t hesitate to contact your classroom teacher, Kerry Read or I at any time.
Yours in Communication
