Principals Report

Parent Morning Tea
Last Friday a number of families from our school got together to meet each other, share stories and ask questions about all sorts of things to do with Primary School, High School and everything in between. It was a great opportunity to sit together have a cuppa and relax. Families agreed Friday mornings were a good time. Please save the date for our next morning tea, which will be held on Friday 3rd of May at 9:00am. This is week one of Term two. We will meet in J Block – similar to last time, everyone is welcome.
Clean up our School AfternoonLast week the campus got together for a Clean Up Our Schools afternoon. Together we picked up rubbish, told teachers about things that were unsafe around our campus and cleaned up our school. Many hands make light work and it didn’t take long before our school looked beautiful, tidy and safe.
Open Night
Open night was held last week. I would like to thank all the families who came to the evening, many who had meetings with teachers. There was a sausage sizzle on the night, and all funds raised from this evening are going towards purchasing new choir stands for our school choir. Families received raffle tickets for coming to the night and two students have been drawn out of the raffle box. Congratulations to Luke Room 7 and Agok from Room 12 who have each won a $25.00 canteen voucher.
Sensorium
Over the next few weeks our junior students will be engaging with the team from Sensorium for a session on Thursdays. Sensorium come out to our school each year, however this year they have a new format, which is specifically for junior students. These incursions are free for families, as we feel it is really important our students have the opportunity to experience literacy through the Arts. Stay tuned for photos from these amazing sessions.
Ride to School and Harmony Day
Today we are celebrating Ride to School Day and Harmony Day. Staff and students walked, rode, and scootered to school. Some students, families and staff met at different points around our community and walked to school together.
We also wore orange today to represent our support for Harmony Week. Harmony Week celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.
Down Syndrome Day
Next Thursday our campus will be celebrating Down Syndrome Day by wearing crazy socks for the day. Everyone is encouraged to come in different socks on Thursday 21st of March. Join in with us to create a single global voice for advocating for the rights, inclusion and well being of people with Down syndrome on 21 March. Each year the voice of people with Down syndrome, and those who live and work with them, grows louder. Student councillors will collect a gold coin donation for those who would like to contribute to the Down Syndrome Association of Western Australia.
Faction Week
Next week we are in full faction mode! Jumps, Throws and Tug of War will happen on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, before our big faction carnival on the Friday. A letter regarding the carnival has gone home to families. Please make sure you read the letter. There is a slight change in format and we will be eating recess over at Windemere Oval this year. Please make sure you have packed your child’s recess in a named disposable bag so it can be taken over to the oval. Lunch will be held at school as usual.
