Habitat Explorers in STEM
This term in STEM, Rooms 1 and 3 have been exploring Biological Science with a focus on animal homes and shelters. As a pilot school for Perth Zoo’s exciting new learning program, Habitat for Wildlife, our students have been exploring the many factors that influence where and how animals live—including habitat types, environments, weather, food sources, and shelter needs.
As part of our learning journey, students:
- Designed and built birdhouse boxes for Australian native honeyeater birds
- Completed guided “Art Hub” animal drawings
- Created habitats using a range of construction materials and blocks
- Cooked themed treats including a “fishbowl” and a “bird’s nest”
- Investigated how human homes are designed, blueprinted, and built
It’s been a hands-on, creative and inspiring term of discovery. Amazing work Room 1 and 3!!
