Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)
Joondalup Schools have a joint RAP plan that has been operational since its initial implementation in 2020. The aim of the group is to inspire understanding of Indigenous culture and how it can be weaved and celebrated with the school community. Current members of this working group are: Natalie Hatton, Carol Selley, Sean Whitehead, Sandra Bennett, Beverly Shaw, Margaret Parker, Emily Hall, Shannon Read and Jodie Ireland. The RAP Plan is available to view on both schools’ websites.
The group have overseen the introduction of many events, programs and environmental changes within the campus. These include the annual smoking ceremony, reading texts by Aboriginal artists and the yarning circle. In Week 5 we will be participating in Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week activities and Term 3 will see NAIDOC activities, including the school picnic.
We will soon be reviewing our RAP plan, and we already have plans around the introduction of a native herb garden to be used in Science and Sustainability. We also want to develop the involvement of the local community in sharing ideas and the direction of the Plan. If you have an idea on how we can develop the school RAP, please contact the school via phone and we can discuss a time to meet and talk. Alternatively, please email sean.whitehead@education.wa.edu.au
