Principal's Report

Kaya,
Sensorium
We have had the amazing artists from Sensorium working with us for a few weeks – which led up to their wonderful performances of Oddysea. We have been really privileged to be able to work with them, as they bring such a unique perspective of learning through exploration. We are hopeful Sensorium receive a grant this year, so they are able to create a new story and performance. If they are successful in the grant process we will be partnering with them to develop this performance and experience.National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week
Yesterday the school recognised National Sorry Day and, this week, National Reconciliation Week through a number of classroom activities.
The students created Native Hibiscus flowers which will be used to create a display near the administration block. The flower was selected by the National Stolen Generation Alliance as it is found widely across Australia and is a symbol of strength and resilience.
The theme for National Reconciliation Week is ‘Bridging Now to Next’ and students have worked on bridge pictures during Art lessons.
Both Joondalup ESC and Joondalup PS have a joint Reconciliation committee and we are currently reviewing our plan, and setting new goals.
Please see the invite further in the newsletter regarding our upcoming Cultural Morning Tea on 10 June. We would appreciate some imput from our families regarding the teaching of Aboriginal culture at Joondalup Schools.

School Development Day
This Friday 30 May there is a School Development Day for staff so no children come to school. Our staff will be attending a special education conference with over 1, 000 colleagues at the Perth Convention Centre. As a QTS (Quality Teaching Strategy) school we will be presenting at this conference.
Our office staff will be attending the Joondalup Learning Communities’ conference where the Bullshift team will be presenting about clear, open and honest communication.
Please also be aware that Monday 2 June is WA Day. Students return to school on Tuesday 3 June
Variety Club donations
We have received two donations from the Variety Club. One donation has enabled us to purchase a number of gift vouchers for the uniform shop which we are able to pass directly onto some families.
The other donation will enable us to purchase some more activities and games for students to use in the junior play area, as well as to purchase a 3D printer. This will be used to create specific resources for student learning.
P&C Association
The P&C have committed to spend up to $40,000 across the campus this year for all students. Over the coming months the quadrangle behind the undercover area will be painted with activities. We will also have more seating for students on the oval, as well as more soccer goals and permanent AFL goals.
Winter is coming!
The cold season of Makuru is fast approaching. It is a time where students often wear jumpers and jackets to school and may take them off at some point during the day. Please make sure everything is labelled with your child’s name, just in case!
Similarly this season is the beginning of colds and flus. While it is really important that your child comes to school every day, it is more important that they come to school well.
Kapture Photos
Today and Thursday are our school photo days. If you are not able to find your photo order flyer, please contact Kirsty in the office for assistance. Orders received within 10 days of photo day secure discounted photo day prices. Late orders are handled separately to the main school delivery and incur a $30 custom service charge. Sibling photos for students attending both Joondalup PS and Joondalup ESC will be taken during Week 10 of this term.
