Sustainability Corner
Kaya Wanjoo – Hello and welcome,
The Noongar season is Kambarang. During Kambarang season,we see an abundance of colours and flowers exploding all around us. The yellows of many of the acacias continue to abound, along with some of the banksias and many other smaller delicate flowering plants including the kangaroo paw and orchids.

The After School Garden Club is in full swing with many exciting things happening this term. We are ready to separate the worms from the lovely castings they have made. We will then be making our own soil combined with compost and then planting will begin. The Garden Club is now full, which is fabulous news. We now have many parents, grandparents and caregivers attending to help run this school community project. Thank you to all of you.
Recycling Station
Remember to keep bringing in your items for recycling. See the attached for what you can bring in. When dropping it in to the school please put it into the correct bin. Make sure items are not in a plastic bag and are clean. Our students diligently go through the bins in order to pack and send off for recycling and we don’t want nasty surprises for them. Our focus bin this newsletter is Coffee Pods – they need to be clean, not leaking and not in another bag. These are then packaged and sent to a local TerraCycle Material Recovery Facilities located in the same country in which the waste originates. Once sorted by category, the different material types are cleaned and then sent to third-party partners to process the materials into usable forms.
If you would like to know more about what you can do at home for recycling, go to www.terracycle.com.au
The Chickens are here!
There is a ‘cluck’ around the school as the chickens have arrived. Students have been learning how to safely handle them and take care of their needs. Winners of the ‘Name a Chicken’ competition were announced yesterday and they are looking forward to choosing a chicken to name. Watch this space.
