HASS Happenings in Room 34
Kaya,
My name is Mrs Sandra Bennett and I will be teaching your child HASS this year. This covers History, Geography, and Civics and Citizenship. I integrate these subjects with the cross curriculum priorities of Sustainability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultures and Histories and Australia’s Engagement with Asia. This term we are doing History.
A little bit about my history. I have been in education for the past 24 years, having taught Mainstream, Special Needs and English as a Second Language. I live in Northam on 3 acres of rural land but choose to teach at Joondalup ESC I love to travel around the world and have had many adventures.
I have a wonderful husband, four grown up children, one step daughter and ten grandchildren. They certainly keep me busy. My little farm has a dog, cat, chickens and a calf we are hand rearing for a local farmer.
My real passion is Sustainability and I am the coordinator for the campus. You will see the Recycling Station sign at the end of my classroom on the oval. I also run the after school garden club and oversee all recycling and vegetable gardening activities. So, as you can see I get pretty busy.
The first few weeks have got off to a great start, with me getting to know all the new students. Last week I bought in my baby chicks and we had all our lessons outside. It was a fabulous week. Check out some of the photos! Baby chicks certainly bring out the smiles, cuddles and gentleness in your children.
Have a wonderful week

Sandra
