Principal's Report

T166.jpg

Kaya Joondalup families,

We are on to our second day of Adventure Week and students are already having a blast! Yesterday our senior classes attended Caversham Wildlife Park and today our junior classes are at Outback Splash, hopefully staying cool in this heat. Tomorrow our senior students will attend Outback Splash and our junior classes will enjoy Crocs and a Suitcase Circus incursion on Thursday.

Market Day

Congratulations to the students of Rooms 9 and 16 on their successful Market Day stall last Thursday. The day was filled with excitement and the students were beaming with pride when I visited them at Belridge SESC. Their wares had been sold and they had done a significant amount of Christmas shopping themselves. Many thanks to the team at Belridge who organise and host this amazing day each year, see you in 2023!

Swimming

Unfortunately, you will have heard that swimming lessons have been cancelled for the next two weeks as Joondalup Arena have scheduled the pool to be resurfaced. This is unfortunate but we look forward to booking in lessons for 2023, without disruption.

Evacuation Practise

Please be reminded that there will be a planned evacuation practise on Thursday 8th December at 2pm. This is to ensure our planning is up to date and identify any areas that may need consideration. Classes will follow teacher instructions to exit their classrooms and move to the assembly area on the far side of the oval, where all students and staff will be accounted for. The planned evacuation is unlikely to take the full hour and children can still be collected from their classrooms at 3pm.

School Board Meeting

Last night, we held our last School Board meeting for 2022. Our School Board stays abreast of school initiatives and encourages rigorous discussion around programs, achievement targets and school priorities, to enhance education. Our Board members volunteer their time to attend meetings and liaise throughout the year. I would like to recognise the ideas and contribution our Board members make and thank them for their commitment.

Carols by Candlelight

The annual Carols Night will go ahead this Thursday evening, 1 December 2022. Gates will open at 5pm and performances will commence at 6pm. All families can attend to watch the evening and do not need to have a child performing to join the festivities. The following will be available for purchase from outside J Block:

  • Drinks $2
  • Sausage Sizzle $3
  • Battery operated candles $2 (limited stock so be quick)

P&C Association

Last week the P&C met for the final time this year. Thank you to all of the parents who have committed their time and energy to this group. Significantly, I would like to thank Becky Thomas for her work as Treasurer for the past 12 months.  The P&C plays an important role in the school as it is responsible for the canteen and 99 percent of the school’s fundraising.  The P&C have financially the supported the school by subsidising the Year 6 camp cost and funding equipment for Kindy.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the P&C through your involvement in the Colour Run, Easter Egg raffle, Mothers’ and Fathers’ Day stalls, chocolate fundraiser, and disco.  Every time you contribute the school benefits and we are very grateful.

Music RocksMusic Rocks.png

Music Rocks Australia (MRA) have been busy working with some of our classes this semester and will be doing a concert of performances on Monday 5 December at 2pm in the undercover area. Parents of these students are welcome to attend and enjoy the music.

PPP Parent Morning Tea

I encourage you to sign up for the Triple P session being held here on Friday 2 December 2022. It is a safe space for you to get support with helping your child (and you) with fears and anxiety. The idea is that therapists are limited to the amount of hours they can work with your child but you are not. If you are equipped with the skills, you are able to expose your child to strategies on a more consistent and ongoing basis. The session is free and you can bring a support worker or any other people who live or work with your child, the more the merrier!

Stepping Stones Triple P (Positive Parenting Program), has a focus on supporting parents who have children with disabilities, of all ages.

We have scheduled the following FREE session to occur at Joondalup Schools:

  1. Fears and Anxiety (Friday 2 December 2022, 9am)

The sessions will be delivered by Brendan Everett, Psychologist and Triple P consultant. Please register your interest via email to Kirsty.harris@education.wa.edu.au
