Principal's Report
Kaya!
Congratulations to our middle primary classes who performed a wonderful assembly item last Tuesday. Many hours of concentration and practise went into perfecting the item and we are very proud of the result! Well done to all involved.

Friday 4 November, our Year 4-6 students attended and participated in the Starkick Football Carnival in South Perth. Recognition goes to Cloverdale Education Support Centre for organising a wonderful day. Fun was had by all and there was even a Fremantle Dockers recruitment scout there to see the talent! Many thanks to our staff and in particular, Mrs Valentino for coordinating the excursion.

Last Thursday, students enjoyed the P&C annual Colour Run. Although fundraising was the main purpose behind the event, I think the fun surpassed this and took centre stage. Thank you to the P&C who continue to work tirelessly to support the school, while planning fun ways for the children to be involved. Funds raised by the P&C have recently contributed to the costs of Adventure Week, to reduce the amount that families are asked to pay.

Last Friday Joondalup ESC staff participated in a day of professional development. We started the morning with an awareness session about Positive Behaviour Support (a framework for supporting positive behaviour in schools), followed by a corporate challenge with a charity component. Our staff engaged in team activities and challenges and at the conclusion of this, a large donation of LEGO was made to the Patricia Giles Centre for non-violence. The day concluded with the Blanket Activity (Koora Waangkininy Boodjar) presented by Charmaine Climo and her daughter Chantelle. This activity is a succinct representation of Aboriginal history in Australia and supports the work we are doing in the space of cultural responsiveness and the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework.

We have a busy five weeks ahead of us as we near the end of 2022. Our teachers have commenced assessments and are preparing for report writing. After two weeks of assessments, our students will be participating in Adventure Week, with many exciting activities planned. If you are yet to return your permission notes, please do so as soon as possible.
I encourage you to sign up for the Triple P session being held here on Friday 2 December. It is a safe space for you to get support with helping your child (and you) with fears and anxiety. The idea is that therapists are limited to the amount of hours they can work with your child but you are not. If you are equipped with the skills, you are able to expose your child to strategies on a more consistent and ongoing basis. The session is free and you can bring a support worker or any other people who live or work with your child, the more the merrier!
Stepping Stones Triple P (Positive Parenting Program), has a focus on supporting parents who have children with disabilities, of all ages.
We have scheduled the following FREE session to occur at Joondalup Schools:
- Fears and Anxiety (Friday 2 December, 9am)
The sessions will be delivered by Brendan Everett, Psychologist and Triple P consultant. Please register your interest via email to Kirsty.harris@education.wa.edu.au
You can read more information on Stepping Stones Triple P here.
