Principal's Report

T166.jpg

Kaya everyone!

Congratulations to our junior classes who performed a very professional assembly item last Tuesday. Many hours of rehearsal went into refining the item and we are very proud of the perseverance and efforts shown by the students. Some students even remained in character for the entire show!

Friday was a big day at Joondalup Schools, with both the disco and World Teacher’s Day. Many thanks and recognition to the P&C and the disco committee who organised and coordinated this exciting event. This was the first time we have had a quieter and brighter session and we thank the committee for this inclusive idea. The evening was a great success, with a terrific turn out on the night and some spectacular dance moves!

World Teacher's Day

thankyou_2.jpg

I would like to recognise our dedicated, professional, hard-working staff, who were thanked on World Teacher’s Day. Aside from the amazing planning and teaching they do, they also engage in a great deal of behind-the-scenes tasks, to ensure your children are getting the best opportunities and learning program, supported by a myriad of creative strategies. Our staff often dip into their own pockets to buy additional resources, reinforcers and rewards for the children, participate in professional learning in their own time, spend the school holidays preparing resources and activities, seek out extra-curricular opportunities that meet a child’s interest, share your child’s successes and achievements as a champion and feel the frustration when challenges arise for you and your child. Our staff are clearly more than just educators, as their skillset, humanity and dedication extends them well beyond this. To all of our staff, thank you!

Helen Sweet- Art Specialist

We_will_miss_you.jpg

It is with a balance of sadness, admiration and excitement (for her) that we prepare to farewell Helen Sweet, our wonderfully gifted Art specialist, as she makes the transition to retirement at the end of the year. Helen has a long history of providing an exceptional Visual Art program to the students of Joondalup Schools and has also made her mark on the Social Justice committee and a vast number of  other school priorities. Helen’s positive nature and genuine care for our students will be missed. If you see Helen in the coming weeks, please feel free to pass on your congratulations and well wishes.

ACSF

Aboriginal_cultural_standards.JPG

Joondalup ESC has been on a journey of familiarisation and implementation of the Department of Education Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework (ACSF), which provides the overarching framework to ensuring we are a culturally responsive school, enables us to reflect on our practice and identify ways we can improve. Our Joondalup Schools Reconciliation Action Plan has recently been reviewed and re-published with actions that support the implementation of the ACSF. If you would like to know more about this or are interested in coming on this journey with us, please let me know as we would love to have some parent representation and input in this space.

PPP Parent Morning Tea

I encourage you to sign up for the Triple P session being held here on Friday. It is a safe space for you to get support with changing problem behaviour into positive behaviour. The idea is that therapists are limited to the amount of hours they can work with your child but you are not. If you are equipped with the skills, you are able to expose your child to strategies on a more consistent and ongoing basis. The session is free and you can bring a support worker or any other people who live or work with your child, the more the merrier!

Stepping Stones Triple P (Positive Parenting Program), has a focus on supporting parents who have children with disabilities, of all ages.

We have scheduled the following FREE sessions to occur at Joondalup Schools:

  1. Changing Problem Behaviour to Positive Behaviour (Friday 4 Nov, 9am)
  2. Fears and Anxiety (Friday 2 Dec, 9am)

The sessions will be delivered by Brendan Everett, Psychologist and Triple P consultant. Please register your interest via email to Kirsty.harris@education.wa.edu.au

You can read more information on Stepping Stones Triple P here.

Evacuation Practice

Joondalup Schools will be conducting a practice evacuation on Thursday 8 Dec from 2pm. The purpose is to be able to review our processes and identify any gaps in planning that may be evident. The practise allows students and staff to be reminded of what to do in an emergency. Please do not worry when you see this occurring on the day, when you arrive at the end of the day.
