Fun in the Sensory Room
This term in the sensory room we have enjoyed a number of different activities. Each session follows a similar routine. We start with a group activity, followed by some time to explore the equipment and activities and then we finish with some action songs.
In our group sessions the stretchy band is a particular favourite of each class that come into the sensory room. During this activity we focus on following actions and taking turns. The students are requesting songs from previous weeks and are coming up with new songs to try.
We’ve played games together such as Pop up Pirate and Giant Jenga. When we were playing Jenga, the students were encouraging and helping each other find bricks that could move so that the tower didn’t fall down. It was great to see them encouraging each other and cheering their successes.
During book week we read a story called the Big Red Bath by Julia Jarman. In the story, Ben and Bella had a bath with all their animal friends. Using a switch activated bubble machine, the students enjoyed bubbles floating across the room every time we read that bubbles were rising in the bath. The children enjoyed retelling the text using the toys and the bubble machine when it was time to play with the activities.
We have all had an awesome time in sensory room this term.
