Kaya!
Athletics Carnival
We had another successful Athletics Carnival on Friday thanks to the hard work of Mr Lee and the support of all staff. Although the weather was cool, the rain stayed away, and the students had a wonderful time. Thank you to those parents who were able to make it and cheer on their child as they participated in their running races and team games. Carnivals can be a daunting experience for some of our students but as there are practise runs for many weeks in the lead up, our students are prepared for the events they are placed in. The feedback from the carnival was overwhelming positive so congratulations to all involved. Each year the Education Support Network (ESNN) hold a carnival specifically for education support students but due to COVID, this is not going ahead this year. We are hopeful it will be back on in 2023!

IEPs
Your child’s IEP has been finalised, following your parent/teacher meeting, a copy has been sent to you. Please sign this and return it to your classroom teacher for our records. IEPs are working documents so adjustments and refinements can be made throughout the semester as your child continues to demonstrate progress.
Triple P Morning Tea
Our last morning tea was held on Friday 26 August. We had a presentation by guest speaker, Brendan Everett about Stepping Stones Triple P (Positive Parenting Program), with an emphasis on parenting children with disabilities of all ages. We had a wonderful turnout by parents and interest in JESC hosting a couple of sessions. Brendan Everett is a registered School Psychologist with a background in education support and supporting positive behaviour in young people.
At the meeting, we were able to get some feedback as to what sessions would be beneficial and the following were identified as the top preferences:
- Changing Problem Behaviour to Positive Behaviour (Friday 4 Oct, 9am)
- Fears and Anxiety (Friday 2 Dec, 9am)
If you would like to register your interest in attending these sessions, please email Kirsty.harris@education.wa.edu.au
Kindergarten 2023
Kindergarten enrolments are open for 2023 and enrolment packs are available in the office. If you are planning to enrol your child into Kindy at Joondalup ESC for 2023, please complete and return your request to enrol form as soon as possible.
Planning has commenced for 2023, with input from class staff. We begin this comprehensive process early so that we have time to consider all options and best placement for students. Class placement is determined by a number of factors, including behavioural and medical needs, independence, social and emotional needs and dynamics within the classroom. We put a great deal of thought into planning class structures, but it is not always possible to meet each request or expectation. Should you have a very specific request, please make a time to speak with a member of the Administration team.
In exciting news from the Joondalup Schools P&C, we have a date for the next Disco! This will go ahead on Friday 28 October. The Disco committee has organised a Sensory session to occur, between the K-2 and 3-6 sessions. The cost will be half of the usual rate and parents will be required to stay onsite during this session. I would also like to mention the P&C who work tirelessly to give their time and energy on a very regular basis to support our students. Many hands make light work so if you are able to volunteer, please let us know so we can pass on your details. Many thanks to the Disco committee for their work to create this event, it will be a fantastic night! Stay tuned for further updates!
Father's Day Stall
Thank you to the P&C Association for their wonderful Father’s Day stall. As expected, nearly everything sold out.
Education Assistants Appreciation Week
Last week we recognised the work of education assistants with chocolates. Our education assistants play a significant role in the education of students across all classes. Thank you for the vital work you do with your students and colleagues.
Abilities Expo
We are delighted to have a group of students performing at the upcoming Abilities Expo at Crown on Thursday 8 September at approximately 11.00am. The expo is free to attend so if you are thinking about heading down, please show our students your support. I would like to recognise Ruth Galt for organising rehearsals and preparing our students for this wonderful opportunity.
