Room 9 learnt about themselves and their classmates

Our year 6's in Room 9 have made an amazing start to the school year. Everyone is showing genuine kindness, understanding and support for each other. They have shared information about themselves, including what they love to do, eat and play and what makes them happy. After putting together an ‘All About Me’ puzzle, the class carried out a little investigation and asked questions of each other to learn more about their classmates.

We have been exploring stories about space and carrying out some fun activities, mainly about how things travel in the air. We have made paper airplanes and parachutes with balloons to see if they will fly. Luckily it was a nice, windy day for our experiment and when we dropped them from the yellow climbing frame, the wind carried our parachutes quite far!

The students have been learning about feelings and emotions as part of the Zones of Regulation. They use a feelings thermometer to check in during the day and indicate how they are going. We will continue to learn about how to manage our emotions and how we can respond in stressful, worrying or frustrating situations.

In HASS, students have been learning about the importance of voting and being able to have their say. They have made voting boxes and practiced voting on things like their favourite colours and favourite sensory toys. We incorporated some maths concepts like tallies and graphs to record some of our information.

A huge congratulations to our first certificate winner of the year, Lily for her cheery and helpful nature in room 9. She is willing to give things a go and is building her independence skills. Way to go Lily!
