Room 28 Went Camping

Room 28 has had an exciting few weeks. During Geography sessions, we have been looking at the weather and seasons as well as appropriate activities to do according to the weather. One of the boys in our room was going on a camping trip and this interested all the children, so we decided to plan our very own. This involved finding out the weather and planning a day to go, choosing a suitable location in the school to pitch our tent. We also had to plan our list of things to take and food that we could eat. Students were introduced to the camping experience through vocabulary development, story time, and sharing personal experiences.

When everyone was ready to depart, we pulled the wagon packed with all the things needed for the trip such as: a tent, sleeping bag, cooking utensils, flashlight, etc. Children checked the map and off we went to the 'campsite.' When they arrived, students pitched the tent and set up the cook stoves (our homemade solar ovens). We used the power of the sun to melt our chocolate and marshmallows to make smores for a traditional camping treat which was absolutely delicious.

We had so much fun on our pretend camping trip. The students in room 28 learned what takes place on a camping expedition such as pitching a tent, cooking camp food, and sleeping in a sleeping bag.
