Principals Report

Principal - Natalie Burns.jpg

Winter is coming

The winter weather is certainly upon us! This last week has been especially cold and wet. Please ensure your children have warm shoes, and jackets/jumpers. When the weather is too cold or wet students do not play outside at recess or lunch time, and stay inside. Encourage your child to stay out of the rain when going to class, or when meeting you to be picked up after school.

We are also entering cold and flu season. Please keep your children home if they show any signs of illness. At school we will be vigilant to ensure students are washing hands, and blowing noses etc. and will ask you to pick your child up in the event they show any cold or flu like symptoms.

Whole school assessments

Over the next two weeks our students will be engaging in assessments for literacy and numeracy. All students engage in these assessments which drive our individual, class and whole school planning and target setting. We complete these assessments as our students do not engage in NAPLAN, and we feel it is important to assess as a school how all our students are progressing. These assessments help inform our report writing, and target setting for semester two IEP’s. We will complete whole school assessments in term four as well.

Tuesday 15 June Free dress 80’s day!

Disco.JPG

The Yr.6 students from Joondalup Primary School will be hosting an assembly on Tuesday, 15 June. It will be an 80’s rock themed assembly and they would like everyone to dress in their best 80’s rock outfits complete with denim, black t-shirts and bandanas. There will be a gold coin donation requested for this day, with all funds being raised to go towards our sister school, Srang School in Cambodia.

Swimming Lessons : Tuesday 8 June – Friday 18 June

Our in term swimming lessons are coming up. This is often a very busy time. It would be really helpful if parents could ensure all students bathers, goggles, towels etc. are clearly labelled with your child’s name on them.

We are very aware that it will be very cold during this time, and want to make sure we take our time after swimming to ensure students have had access to a warm shower, and are completely dry before returning to school on the bus. Although we are not sure of our exact swimming session, we know they are in the morning. All students who require additional support are supported by our staff in the water, and when changing. Our swimming group sizes are also small – with less than 6 students in each group.

Please note that therapy sessions during swimming will not be held until after 11.30.  If your child has a session in the morning please let your therapist know.  Unfortunately we do not have the capacity to reschedule these sessions.

Reconciliation Week

Thursday 27 May, marked the commencement of National Reconciliation Week. Yesterday as a campus we took steps together on our journey towards reconciliation. It was lovely to see families join us for activities and share a lunch together. As a school we are committed to this journey, and will continue to embed Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander history and culture into our curriculum.
