Cooking Around the World with Room 26

Our 2020 Finale!

This term has been a fun, busy time and we are looking forward to more as we finish 2020!

Cooking from Different Countries

As we have travelled around the world learning about the different countries and where they are, we have also explored the food from each country. We enjoyed cooking different dishes and tasting food we haven’t tasted before! Some favourites included Boerewors from South Africa, fried rice from China, Brigaderios from Brazil and did you know Rocky Road is an Australian creation? Around the early 1850’s Rocky Road was created as a way to sell confectionary that had gone stale after its long trip from Europe. It was mixed with locally grown nuts and cheap chocolate to make it taste better! During NAIDOC week we cooked damper, it was very messy and yummy!

The Yarning Circle

Our school has had a Yarning Circle installed. In Aboriginal culture yarning and storytelling are very important. We enjoy sharing stories together. Yarning is like having a chat. The yarning circle is a place of harmony that provides a safe place to talk to and listen to others. Yarning together is focused on talking about our strengths. We really enjoyed painting the stumps for our Yarning Circle and feel proud that we have helped to make this great learning space. It is a great place for storytelling.

World Water Week

World Water Week was in week two of this term. We learned about the water cycle and talked about the things we do every day that use water. We had fun acting and getting our classmates to guess what we were doing to use water. We also found out some very interesting facts about water. We found out that water is constantly being recycled so the water you drink today could be the same water dinosaurs drank millions of years ago! And a person can live about a month without food, but only a week without water!
