Principals Report
Faction Carnival
Tomorrow is faction carnival day! This year the carnival will be held on our school oval. Spectators will have an entire side of the oval dedicated to viewing so you can make sure you get a good spot! The canteen will be open on this day and will be operating out of the staff room, and there will be dedicated toilets for spectators on the day. A lot of information has been sent home to families via our app and in previous newsletters. We have ensured we continue to follow COVID safe practices.
Staff Professional Learning
This week, 48 of our staff engaged in their “Team Teach” refresher course. Team Teach is 'positive handling' training which helps staff support students with challenges they may face throughout the day, including self-management. It teaches a range of de-escalation and positive handling techniques which promote positive relationships in schools. This is training we ensure all staff at Joondalup Education Support Centre have currency in.
We also ensure all staff are trained in first aid, which we do every alternate year.
Business Plan
In the coming week or two all families will receive a copy of our new business plan. This plan outlines our whole school targets over the next years. We have specific literacy, numeracy and attendance targets as well as milestones on how we can improve as a whole school. Business plans will be sent home in hard copy format, and will be available on our school website.
Education Assistant Week
Last week we celebrated Education Assistant Week, thanking them for all the wonderful work and support they provide here at Joondalup to students, staff and families. We had a special morning tea on Wednesday. Our school would not be the amazing place it is if it wasn’t for our Education Assistants!
Wellness Day
Last Friday our entire campus celebrated Wellness Day here at school. Staff dressed up in colours that represented emotions, and the entire campus joined together for uplifting activities that lasted the entire day. It was a wonderful event, huge thank you to Miss Mercer from the Primary School for organising the event.
School Board – we need you!
We have a number of positions which will become available in the coming months. Families you may have received a flyer outlining what the Board does, and what its obligations are. Our School Board meet twice a term on a Monday evening. If you are interested in more information about joining the School Board, please contact Kellie Carter.
World Duchenne Awareness Day
World Duchenne Awareness Day is celebrated on September 7th. On this day we raise awareness for Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy around the globe. We have students here at Joondalup who have Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and a number of classrooms took some time to learn about this condition this week.
For more information you can visit Muscular Dystrophy Australia - https://www.mda.org.au/disorders/overview/dmd-bmd/
