Carols by Candlelight
Joondalup Schools are hosting an evening of singing Christmas songs on Tuesday 10 December. The night will officially start at 6:30pm, gates will open at 6:00pm, and the event will be held on the oval outside C Block. Santa will make a visit and there will be a sausage sizzle. There will be live entertainment and candles (battery operated) on sale for $2.00 The night will finish by 7:30pm. All families and friends are welcome and it would be wonderful to see everyone there.
Adventure Week
Next week students will be out and about on Adventure Week. This is something we do each year to celebrate the successes achieved throughout the year. Junior and Senior students will be going to various locations in the community and will have lots of fun. If you have not sent in permission notes please do so as students are unable to go on excursions without permission. Next week (on excursion days) make sure students have hats, drink bottles and packed lunches. For students attending Outback Splash please ensure all clothing items are clearly marked with your child’s name.

Christmas Assembly
The final assembly of the year will be held on Friday 13 December from 8:50am in the undercover area. This assembly will be hosted by the choir and it is an opportunity to sing lots of Christmas Songs together. Students are encouraged to dress up in Christmas colours and clothes to celebrate.
Class lists 2020
Staff have a final draft of lists, and families can now request to see which class their child will be in next year. These are still a final draft – as we are still meeting with families wishing to enrol, which in turn can change the class lists. It is not anticipated that students will be moving intended classes, but this cannot be guaranteed.
Our school will commence next year quite large, and we will have two additional transportable classrooms installed over the first term school holidays in 2020, and they will be ready to use in Term 2 2020. Two classrooms will be moving in Term 2 next year into these new rooms.
We are also in the process of appointing a new second Associate Principal who will commence at the beginning of next year. J Block will become a second administration block and the new Associate Principal will work from this space.
The STEM program (Mr Critchley) will be located in K Block.
Personal items lists
These have been sent home. If you did not receive yours please let us know ASAP
Before and after school collection times
Please remember that children should not be at school before 8.30am as classes open at 8.35am. Parents are welcome to come to the school at 2.50pm to meet their children at 3.00pm which is the end of the day. If you are on the school site after the school siren at 8.50am and before 2.50pm you need to sign in as a visitor at the school. As part of the school's evacuation process we need to know who is on the school site at all times. If we know that you are at the school we will remember to look out for you should we ever need to evacuate. Similarly for the safety of everyone's children, we need to know who is legitimately on the school site. Quite rightly, the staff and students often report unfamiliar faces to the office. It allows us to check that people are who they say they are.Parking in the staff carpark
Please do not park in the staff carpark. As you will have observed there is very limited space and it is vital that staff park in the allocated space as this free up spaces around the school for parents at pick up and drop off.

This term in Geography we have discussed the different types of vegetation in a variety of habitats and the animals that live within those habitats. We have read books and watched some documentaries. The students have spent time researching the habitat they wanted to create, examining the types of animals and vegetation required. The dioramas were designed giving consideration to colour and materials that would make it authentic.
If you notice any suspicious activity on School Grounds, please contact Security on 9264 4771 or the Police on 131 444.
During Term 4 our classroom theme was “Under the Sea”. We have had so much fun writing so many different stories about our favourite sea creatures, what we see at the beach and what we would catch if we went fishing. We have been working on adding describing words into our sentences.
We have also been working with some friends from Room 12 and Room 13. They have been assisting us with our independent morning routines and our afternoon craft sessions. They have also been leading our afternoon reading group sessions. We have had so much fun working with our new friends.
The staff and students in Room 16 have enjoyed participating in the school garden this year. From the beginning of the year students planted fruit and vegetables and it has delighted them to see the garden grow throughout the year. Students thoroughly enjoyed watering the garden bed each week and seeing if any strawberries or tomatoes have grown.
Candles
After learning about the history of Carols by Candlelight, the students on campus created candles. They worked with the elements of shape and value to imply three dimension in a two dimensional piece of art.
The students in rooms 9 & 27 worked with soft pastels and the students in rooms 2, 3 & 25 worked with wax crayon and dye.
Candle holders were created out of clay.

Big Bash Cricket
“Howzat!?” Absolutely fantastic. No crickets could be heard over the sound of the music playing and the students enjoying batting and bowling in the Big Bash Cricket event. Students from Joondalup Primary School and Joondalup Education Support Centre spent the day versing Beldon Primary School, Beldon Education Support Centre and Springfield Primary School.
Cricket academy students from Belridge Secondary College were there to umpire the games along with entertainment and giveaways provided by the WACA. Who emerged as the overall winner? Nobody knows. The event was played in good spirits, where the scores were secondary to the sportsmanship and social atmosphere that the day provided.
Joondalup Primary School and Joondalup Education Support Centre were represented by excellent role models and conducted themselves as usual, with a high degree of integrity, positivity and skill.
Thank you to all the staff that participated in the event. Your work is always appreciated by the school community. Thank you to the parents that came to support the students. It really lifts the spirit of the students when they see a friendly face. Thank you to the students who consistently represent Joondalup Schools to an exceedingly high standard.
If your child would like to get into cricket, there is a great cricket club that trains and plays at Windermere Reserve Oval, directly across the road from the schools. This includes programs for all ages and abilities plus there are already students from Joondalup Schools who are a part of this club, making integration easier. Joondalup Kinross Cricket club also have programs for Education Support Centre students, which is where Mr Lee used to coach before starting at Joondalup Schools.
