Kaya everyone,
It is wonderful to see our students back at school and ready to learn. We welcome back students who are now in an older year group, and welcome those coming to Joondalup Education Support Centre for the first time, or to school for the very first time.
We have had a very smooth start to the term, and students have settled very quickly into classrooms and routines. We are already into Week 3 of our 9 week term!
We welcome some new staff to our school this year. Madison Ricketts, Brett Scoble, Emily Hall, Michelle Connor and Ashley Vincent join us this year.
Smoking Ceremony
We had our annual smoking ceremony last Friday, symbolising renewal and strengthening, and bringing people together. Uncle Jason has been leading our schools in this for a few years, and this year it was just as special. Although it was a hot day, moving the ceremony to the undercover area provided some relief from the heat.
Updating details – 2024
Families will receive a note soon asking to update your details. It is a good time to make sure we have the most up to date details about and medical conditions, phone numbers, emails etc. Every year as a school we must update these records, even if nothing has changed. When they arrive home please make any necessary changes, or alternatively, let us know nothing has changed. All forms need to be returned signed, even if nothing has changed.
Locavora
This is who we are able to order our lunches from, as our canteen is now closed. If you would like to order lunches for Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays it can be done with Locavora Schools – Lunch Orders for School. Please refer to the flyer in this newsletter.

Room 26 have a busy start to the Term!
This term in Literacy we have started a Talk for Writing unit of work on the book Possum Magic by Mem Fox.
This week we have introduced the unit by completing a small book study. This has involved repeated readings of the book. Exploring the vocabulary, identifying correct punctuation in sentences and comprehension.
We had an afternoon tea with our fellow Year 3/4 students who are also completing this unit. Our afternoon tea comprised of a number of items that were eaten in the story.
Next week we start our story map and continue with a range of hands on, oral and writing activities.
This semester Room 14 will be looking at Hygiene for our Health unit. This week the children were learning about the importance of hand washing and how to wash their hands carefully and thoroughly. The whole class enjoyed practicing the correct way to wash their hands, ensuring that they wash both sides of their hands and between their fingers. We will be practicing this several times this semester so that this becomes automatic. We watched a video about handwashing and we cut and pasted the sequence of hand washing.
This lesson was fun and engaging and enjoyed by the whole class.
We hope you enjoy looking at our pictures.
Please find attached guide for ordering lunches via Locavora.
Recess orders are no longer available, with lunches available Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays. *Please note the cut off times for ordering on the attached.
All the classes have settled with excitement and enthusiasm, and the atmosphere buzzes with creativity. This year, your child will have the opportunity to dive into the world of art and unleash their imagination through various mediums. They will explore the art of painting, creating collages, and sculpting with clay. Additionally, they will get to experiment with different media like charcoal, oil pastels, and chalk. As their teacher, I encourage and support their artistic journey, helping them explore their creativity and develop innovative ideas. I can't wait to see the sensational art they will create this year! If you have any questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask. Let's make this year a masterpiece of creativity!
