Kaya families
I hope you have been keeping warm over the past few weeks, and have managed to avoid any of the wild weather we have experienced. When we have weather like this we usually feel an impact at school. Please be careful when walking through the school grounds for uneven brick paving which may have slipped due to rain, large puddles, large tree branches and roof leaks. If you do see any damage please report it to the office so we can have it repaired straight away.
School Photos
You will have received your school photos by now. Sometimes it can be difficult to capture that perfect moment when everyone is looking at the camera and smiling at the same time, and our staff and photographers did a wonderful job at making this happen. Orders are still available through the Kapture website at www.kapture.com.au
NAIDOC week
In Week 10 our campus will be celebrating NAIDOC week. This years theme is “For our Elders” recognising the important role they play across every generation. As a campus we will have many activities which will build our understanding of how important Elders are.
Everyone is invited to our NAIDOC picnic on Thursday 29 June at 12:30. Bring yourself a picnic rug and some lunch – or order a picnic box from the canteen and come and share a picnic lunch together with your family and friends at school.
Please see the invite attached to this newsletter for more details.
Constable Care Incursion
We were lucky enough to have a Constable Care incursion on Friday. The incursion was tailored specifically for our students, and the theme was “fun/scary” with a focus on protective behaviours and emotions. The incursion was paced for staff to support students and their understanding.
Congratulations Elizabeth Hore
At the end of this term we will say goodbye to Elizabeth Hore, who after more than 50 years of service in government schooling is beginning a new chapter, where she has the time to enjoy retirement. Liz has worked at Joondalup Education Support Centre since 2010. Family, friends and colleagues will be celebrating her commitment to education later in the term.
Reports
Reports are currently being written by teachers. We anticipate to send them out on Wednesday 28 June, together with the Primary School. Reports are sent electronically, as a link. You just click on the and save the report, as the link will only be active for 4 weeks after it has been sent. If you require a paper copy of your report, or more than one copy please let us know.
Parent Survey
In the coming few days parents and carers will receive a survey via email. It is important to get feedback from families about our school. The questions are standard questions given to us by the department, so you may be familiar with them already. All surveys are anonymous and are used to for us to reflect on how we operate as a school. We will have paper copies for families to complete available at the front office. You will have any time up until July 17 to complete the survey. Our school board will analyse the feedback.
SZApp update
We have received feedback that families much prefer receiving messages via SeeSaw rather than SZapp. Over time we will phase out use of the app, and in turn use SeeSaw more to give both class and whole school messages.
Pyjama Day 1 June 2023

Talk for Writing
We have started our new Talk for Writing story – Alice in Wonderland. The students came into a classroom that had been transformed into a wonderful tea party. It really helped set the scene and the mood that it was also pyjama day. The kids were intrigued with the fairy lights, the stuffed animal creatures that came to tea and of course the plates of food! Harrison particularly enjoyed the sweet treats, with Shia choosing a lollipop and Jake B loving the chocolate cupcakes. Layla and Marko loved picking at the popcorn while Levi, Evie and Jake O tried a little bit of everything. It was a fun morning with lots of chatter about what was to come and why our room looked so different.
Gardening
One of the events coming up for the Year 6s is Market Day at Belridge Secondary ESC. This is a day where local schools come together with items and goods that they have made and sell them in a market stall environment. All proceeds go back to support our Year 6 final graduation events. This happens in Term 4 but the planning and preparation starts early in order to get everything ready. Our class have been planting seeds and seedlings, watering and checking on them regularly and are hoping to get enough fruit and vegetables to make a selection of jams, sauces and pickles to sell. I am sure there will be a lot of taste-testing along the way too, to make sure the flavours are just right.
Assembly
We would love to see as many people as possible at the assembly on Tuesday 27 June. Please remind your children to dress up in their most imaginative 90's themed outfits.
Can you help with the art room? I am in need of newspapers, paper rolls from paper towels and Gladwrap (unfortunately, I cannot take toilet rolls). All would be appreciated.
Joondalup Schools P&C Association are seeking to fill two vital positions – President and Secretary.
We are looking for a President ASAP and a Treasurer from the start of 2024. Both roles are currently occupied, so there will be a hand over of these positions.
