Welcome back to a most unusual start to the 2021 school year. It was really exciting to see students going to their new classrooms, and meeting classmates and staff. A huge welcome to our new students joining us this year, it was lovely seeing you in the Joondalup school uniform.
We have a lot of information we send families throughout the day. Communication may happen through the school app, newsletters, SeeSaw or on our website. Please make sure you are familiar with all these so you don’t miss out on any information.
Newsletters are sent out via email fortnightly on Fridays. Anyone can subscribe to newsletters if you would like family and friends from far and wide to catch up on what is happening at school.
You can download our app by searching SZapp and following the directions attached.
We have had a change to recess and lunch times this year. Please note that recess is from; 10:24 – 10:44am and lunch is 12:32 – 1:02pm (with a 10 minute alotted time to eat prior toplay).
We have also changed our assembly times and days. Please note that assemblies will now be held on Tuesday afternoons at 2:15pm.
This year the Education Support Centre will host three assemblies. Middle primary will host the assembly on Tuesday 29 June. Seniors will host an assembly on Tuesday 24 August (also Book Week), and junior students will host an assembly on Tuesday 26 October.
We had planned on having a smoking ceremony led by Nick Abraham from Warrang-Briddil (meaning ‘Enlighten to Acknowledge’ in Noongar language) in the first week of school. This ceremony has now been postponed until COVID restrictions have eased somewhat. More information will be sent home when a new date has been confirmed.
Our faction carnival will happen in Term 3 this year, as it was so successful at this time last year.
Changes to ICT rules at schools
As our world continues to become more digitalised, digital technologies become more and more a part of schooling and education. As you are aware, everything we input into a device is stored somewhere, including details about our school, staff, students etc. The Department of Education is working hard to ensure that all data stored is safe, and as a result schools are being asked to inform you about the programs and apps we use at school, and seek permission from you about some specific programs we use, such as SeeSaw. In the next couple of weeks, you will receive a letter informing you of the programs and apps we use at school, and seek your permission to use some specific programs. Please be assured we are not using any new programs, or doing anything different than what we usually do – this is just a way to ensure families are informed of our practices here at Joondalup.
Finally, teachers will be in touch shortly to arrange IEP meetings with families to plan outcomes with you, for your child.

You may have noticed some new faces while walking around the school campus. We would like to welcome the new staff that have joined us and also welcome back staff who were doing relief for us last year and have joined us again this year.
On our recent Staff Development Day, staff participated in mindfullness activies. One of those activities was the painting of a large mural on the oval side of C Block. If you haven't had the chance to view the mural it is certainly worth a visit.
A huge thank you to Mel McVee who designed the mural based on indigenous flowers and animals to WA. More of Mels work can be seen at
